March 11, 200719 yr So I'm back to FS9, after giving up on FSX until either (a) they fix it, or (:( Santa leaves me a Cray computer under the tree this year so I can run FSX, and I was hoping that a sound stutter problem I was having would magically disappear after reinstalling FS9. Guess again. The equipment list goes like this: P4 @ 2.4ghz, 2gb RAM, Audigy 4 soundcard, nVidia GEForce 6200, blah, blah, blah. I can get the visual part of FS9 to be pretty stutter-free by tweaking this and that, but the ATC voices sound like Porky Pig with the hiccups. I don't know what changed because when I first got FS9, it didn't do that. One day it did and now I can't get rid of it. Well, that's not entirely true. I can make it better if I fly with NO weather. I've massaged the weather/cloud/display/sound settings until my eyes cross. I've played with the sound acceleration thing but no luck.I don't want to fly with no weather at all, so what I do is tune the radios to an off-channel to keep the irritation factor down and then tune the ATIS of the field where I'm going to land. I've given up on flight following or, heaven forbid, an IFR flight. Any other ideas?Th-th-th-th-thanks!
March 11, 200719 yr Try reducing the sound acceleration to "basic" (its on the sound tab when you run DXdiag)
March 11, 200719 yr I had exactly the same problem a while back triggered by weather. The 100% cure for me was to open the pc casing and apply an external fan.Don't know if you've tried this, but it cured mine immediately.regards Jim
March 11, 200719 yr If you are running an AGP video card and an Audigy 4 it may be that you need to dial down the PCI latency on the video card to allow the sound card to get enough CPU cycles allocated to it.Do a search for PCI latency on the forums...lots already written on this.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VSantiago de Chile Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case
March 11, 200719 yr I've already tried the basic acceleration and I've got more fans inside than a sultan and his harem, but the PCI latency sounds like something to try. Thanks to all for the input, I do appreciate it.B-b-b-b-bye!
