March 5, 200323 yr Every time I get near O'hare the visibility suddenly drops down to about 5 mi (if even that) as though the max. vis. has been set at this and everything beyond that turns blue. Also, any clouds that were in the sky disappear. It's as though a circle (not a sphere, just 2 dimensions) w/5 mi radius has been drawn on the ground and anything outside of it just disappears :( Something is obviously very wrong with either my graphics card (perhaps it's overclocked too far?) or my settings in the sim/graphics card settings. System specs/settings are in my sig, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah, FSUIPC vis. settings are as follows: clear - 3000cloudy - 1800o/c - 1000rainy - 1000graduated vis 0-99k - 6000I had this problem before I installed FSUIPC so that has nothing to do with it... I'd hate to have to clock my vid card back down :( Oh well, I guess that just gives me a reason to save for a Radeon 9800 Pro :)Thanks in advance,Max Cowgill
March 5, 200323 yr I haven't tried that yet but I don't see the need to drop my fps to 18... It *RARELY* gets below 25 even in the most complex situations in spot/vc view panning around the entire scene (even when I had visibility @ 120mi and didn't use FSUIPC). I could give it a shot but I really don't see what you're getting at here... I didn't exactly build this system to run @ 18fps, lol!
March 5, 200323 yr Try clearing the weather - either you have a strange real weather d/l and the vis is screwed, or the settings you have applied are `local` not global. If you clear all weather then re-apply the weather, either manually or through d/l you might find it fixed. Get the same problem in some areas of the UK - I put it down to the reporting stations not filing a complete metar, or the figures used do not correlate with the Jeppesen format of the data so the numbers get ignored or modified.ChasW
March 6, 200323 yr Understand you do not want to run at 18 fps on an ongoing basis.. this was meant as a diagnostic tool. Sometimes, when FS runs into resource conflicts, scenery detail is the first to go.. Reading the other post, weather seems like a more probable cause.. Bert
March 6, 200323 yr I'm pretty sure it's not the weather either, as I seem to recall this being an issue with or without weather (I never setup any weather; it's either left at default [clear skies, unlimited vis, no winds, global] or I d/l real weather). I'll give it a shot though... Thanks for the advice guys, I'll report back on this tomorrow.-Max Cowgill
