Available video recording software?

Recommended Posts

I'd like to get some input of what software is out there to record flight videos (games). I did just install FRAPS and I'm not impressed by any means. When recording, my fps went from 40's to teens. My car racing games are imposible to drive with that issue. I have an AMD 2400 Athlon with 1 gig ram and a 6600GT vid card and think thats not a really good trade off for recording purposes. Surely FRAPS must have worked with this older system????? Its been around for some time hasn't it?Anyway, what other stuff is out there? Thanks,Imelda

I expect almost all recording software will take some toll on your FS frame rates.By experimenting with the various FRAPS options, I have been able to get a fairly decent result and have no great issues. You may wish to audition a program named Camtasia (just Google it) and look for Camtasia 4. This is a full blown recorder-editor which may do a better job for you. If memory serves, they have a free trial version.

Without getting too long-winded about it let me state not all versions of FRAPS are created equal. When I bought my registered version the latest version was FRAPS 2.8.1 and it would only create slide-shows (yes, the frame-rates were that bad). Oddly enough, at that time, FRAPS' FREE demo version was FRAPS 2.7.4 - 18th June, 2006, and it was the version that ran flawlessly on my machine, both for recording FS2004 and FSX.I dealt with the helpful staff at FRAPS and they made available the older version to me as a newly registered FRAPS user. I've run the older version to create many of the 50 videos I have at

, and am very satisfied with FRAPS program and their friendly and efficient support.
