December 20, 200817 yr The MD-11 is a wonderful aircraft with so much automation that it very quickly becomes utterly boring to fly. So I've enabled failures, and on this particular flight I got hit by a complete loss of hydraulic fluid in system 2. That caused some excitement since apparently AP1 depends on this system in some way and so disconnected.Anyway, one of the consequences displayed on the SD CONSEQ page is "FLAPS MAY NOT EXTN > MAX LDG WT". It makes sense that the ability to extend flaps is reduced with the loss of a hydraulic system, but what is the connection to landing weight? If someone could explain this message I would be grateful.TomFYI, the complete list of consequences was:AUTOPILOT 1 NOT AVAILABLEFLAPS MAY NOT EXTN > MAX LDG WTMAX 35 FLAPS FOR LANDINGHYD SYS MAY BE USED FOR APPR & LDG Tom Risager NGX tutorial: http://library.avsim.net/sendfile.php?Location=AVSIM&Proto=ftp&DLID=162360 SIDs & STARs Worked Examples: LOWI-UUDD, KSEA-KLAX, EKCH-ENGM, YSCB-YPAD
December 20, 200817 yr It is speed related. If above MLW, the Hydraulics may not be able to push the flaps down to landing setting if flying at the Vref speed at that weight Bryan Richards "People depend so much on automation that they forget how to get the automation to work." B.W.
December 20, 200817 yr Author Ah, that makes sense. Thanks :)Tom Tom Risager NGX tutorial: http://library.avsim.net/sendfile.php?Location=AVSIM&Proto=ftp&DLID=162360 SIDs & STARs Worked Examples: LOWI-UUDD, KSEA-KLAX, EKCH-ENGM, YSCB-YPAD
December 20, 200817 yr Commercial Member Tom,way to go! :) I'm happy to see people starting to use failures! That's what the professional simulators are there for anyway :)Regards,Markus Markus Burkhard
