Help! Elevator Trim Has A Mind Of Its Own

Featured Replies

Starting today, the elevator trim has gone completely apesh*t on every aircraft I've attempted to use. Visually, the elevators are literally flipping up and down uncontrollably on their trim axes and the panel gauges show the trim going from -16 to +25 to -12, etc. I've tried uninstalling every single addon and nothing has worked. It's definitely not my joystick because it happens when I physically disconnect the joystick from the computer. It's also not a stuck key because I've unassigned the elevator trim keys and the problem is still there. I'm stumped and the only thing I can think of right now is to reinstall FSX. We all know that reinstalling FSX is a MASSIVE pain in the a$$. ANY help concerning how to solve this problem would be appreciated. Thanks.-Brad

I had a problem on one aircraft...the Bush Hawk....deleted my fsx.cfg and let it reload and all worked out OK. Worth a try.

Try to press 'Z' (Autopilot on/off). FSX turns it on by itself sometimes.

Try resetting FSUIPC to defaults just in case its out of whack. On the other hand, have you configured your joystick from FSUIPC?Another thought...Delete you FSX.cfg file and let FS rebuild it again...Troy

Nope, never even configured my joystick for FSUIPC. It's too confusing haha and my joystick is simple. I'll try deleting my FSX.cfg file and letting it rebuild itself. I forgot to mention the fact that it only started doing this after I tweaked FSX.cfg, but only graphics settings. Weird. Anyway, thanks to everyone for the advice. I'll try rebuilding FSX.cfg first, then try cycling autopilot.-Brad

Renaming FSX.cfg and then letting FSX rebuild it worked like a charm. Elevator trim isn't on the fritz, but I gotta go through the gauge authorization process all over. Small price to pay though. Thanks. It's always the most simple solutions, right? Something that I edited in the .cfg file must've screwed with the elevators, although I can't see how editing graphics settings would do that.-Brad

Coming from a former "Computer Science" major who changed my major to finance (and then the finance sector took a huge dump right after I graduated) because I didn't wanna sit in a cubicle and be a code jockey for the rest of my life, CS is nothing more than BS. While combing thorough my old FSX.cfg, I found this line:AutoTrim=TrueI don't know how that got changed, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that was probably the culprit. Eh, well all that matters is it's fixed, because frankly, FSX is about the only "game" I play and I don't know what I'd do without it hahaha.
