January 4, 200917 yr Its a very generic board.. although there are ways to clock it somewhat the maximim memory speed supported it is DDR2 667 which are the first sticks I posted aboveIt makes it very clear it will only support a 95watt CPU which tells me its not a clocking board at all and clocking would be problematical for the CPU's I postedIt comes with a utility which acesses the BIOS from Windows and does allow some playing in the area of clocking, and, the BIOS does have some access to settings directly however I would not place any confidence in getting any decent clock out of that boardTherefore my first selections would be the best upgrade you could dohttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819115054http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820231120and a 8800GT or 9800GT 512MB card you can still clock the card and the system a bit but you are not going to get very far in a system clock if anything since the CPU is maxing out the specified Vreguation by the manufacture of the board. What I posted would be an upgrade for you, no doubt about that, as long as you did the 3 changes at the same time and made sure the memory in the BIOS was running the correct speed and timing.Im almost positive you will need to upgrade the PSU to run those parts tooA motherboard change with the same processor but better memory along with a new PSU would make such an upgrade even better. Assuming you would clock the processor on the right heatsink you could then run a much higher CPU and memory speed on the same video card (88/98) and see a much better resultThe next step up would be a i7 940 system on a 260/280 cardNow I do wish to point out I AM GUESSING at the CPU I posted working because according to the CPU support listhttp://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en-us/mb/cpu...ort.php?S_ID=99The higest CPU for that board officially supported is the E6700 and not the E8 seriesThe E8 may not run.. I would contact BIOSTAR support with your motherboard information and ask them directly as they will know for sureThe E6700 is an alternative here as it will also clock to 3.6-3.9Ghz however since the board is very limited on clocking ability I cant say for sure the E6700 would clock much higher than 3.0-3.2To give you an understanding here... a PentiumD @ 3.0GHz is about the same as a CORE2 @ 1.8GHz so a 2.6-3.0GHz core 2 is an upgrade for youputting just a 88/98 video card in that system without the CPU upgrade is in my opinion goiing to be throwing money at it for very little result
January 5, 200917 yr Author Thanks to each and everyone for the assitance given. I am deeply sorry for such a late response as it was getting late and I just so happen to have fallen asleep at the computer desk.Seeing that I need a major overhaul my interest now would be to wait until I can afford a much better equipt computer that would carry my enjoyment for flightsimming well into the future. In my own opinion, just purchasing parts is eventually going to cost me close to the price of just purchasing a better half decent computer so it George Clark
January 5, 200917 yr George,Just a suggestion. When you find the system you think you'll get, but before you purchase it, post the specs here for the experts to review and advise. (But be careful which expert you listen to. :-) ) That may save you from purchasing something that doesn't quite measure up, or that may have a component that is not so good for FSX.Regards,...jim
January 5, 200917 yr I always forget to look to see if somebody has dated hardware in other regards (mobo, etc..) or not. lolIn that case, I guess my 260 recommendation is of not much use to you. Sorry about that. Maybe it will help you out down the road if you upgrade your system in general. Lot of good advice here and much fun to be had. :) Ark -------------------------- I9 9900K @ 5ghz / 32GB G.Skill (Samsung B) / Aorus Master Mobo / EVGA GTX 2080Ti FTW 3
