Newbie Question: Placing Powerlines

Featured Replies

Hi there, Excuse the newbie question, can powerlines be placed using VTP lines or does that only place the green grass swath beneath the power line? Or do I have to place each utility pole as an individual scenery object? There seem to be two indistinguishable "utility" choices among the VTP lines menu in SBuilder but neither of them seems to place any utility poles. Thanks in advance. Misha

In FS9, default powerlines are placed by use of VTP vector lines. The way these work is determined by the terrain.cfg file. The default settings cause the underlying autogen to be excluded, and the landclass texture is modified by the "MaskClassMap=1" setting, which causes the grass strip. There is also a setting of "VectorAutogen=0", which indexes into the vector autogen portion of the file, in this case autogen 0.0.0 which MS calls "utility lines". It references a model GUID which is in the generic scenery library: conceivably one could create other tower models and they could be added to terrain.cfg. A problem is how to reliably provide updated terrain.cfg file entries if you want to release your mods as an addon. Some addons provide a config tool which will do this.See the beginner's guide thread pinned at the top of the forum for more details.scott s..

Thanks. That's what I thought. I'll have to go back to the drawing board and figure out why they aren't showing.
