Approach Result in Alpha Protection

Recommended Posts

What feature is causing this in ASA? Way too often I'm at about 800 feet AGL on approach when I'm hit with something (windshear?) from ASA that drops my speed so much that I pretty much have to go-around. I just dropped from 170 knots to 160 or less TWICE!! My second go-around was also FUBAR'd because of this damn feature. Now normally I'd like a windshear once and a while, but I get it all too often and my windshear setting in ASA is 10%. Plus after the 1st go-around, I should've been okay, not hit in the same spot again! I want to know if this is the windshear feature or something else, as I've not seen anyone else mention it. Only happens in the MD, but I haven't been fly much else lately. I just know if it were a real plane I'd probably have died about 5 times now. I had to disco ATS and push the throttles all the way up on my second landing attempt, which interestingly resulted in little increase in speed or thrust.

It was into KSDF at around 0150 hours local time for SDF, 0550 hours Zulu (UTC). I don't recall the METAR, but it was a little stormy, so I expect some issues with Wx, but to have a +10 drop in IAS twice on final in the same spot seems a bit much. I really don't know how much speed I would've lost had the speed protection not kicked in. That screwed my first approach completely because it just keep adding speed and forcing a G/A. Then on the second attempt I watched for the first sign and when it hit, I turned ATS off and used manual throttle to try and correct it myself. I was still a messy short final and the landing kinda suffered. I decided to try the flight again since it's short - KMEM to KSDF, and this time turned off the windshear and wake effects completely. However, this time I had those S-turns start up after engaging a direct-to in the FMS. I'm starting to think ASA is completely wasting my time and I need to just return to ASv6.5 until all issues are infact fixed.Yes, I'm using the latest beta, 394 IIRC.

Well that WX could have some to do with it but I don't think ASA has it all together yet either. Like you said just stick to 6.5 for now until they get all the bugs knocked out. It will be a FANTASTIC product after a few patches.
