Manipulating DEM, HGT and other heightmap files

Featured Replies

For the life of me, I can't find any applications that'll let me look at and manipulate heightmap data files. Ideally, I want something that can convert between DEM, HGT and RAW. Google just seems to bring up forums with people editing heighmaps for specific games. This isn't for flightsim, but this is the only place I could think of that might have someone who knew.Yeeeeaaars ago I posted on here under another username, the login info for which is long gone, asking about heightmaps and was directed to an application that let me combine heightmap files and use a low-res one to repair holes in a messy, but hires one I had, but I can't find it at all now. Those old posts seem to be long gone from the forum archives. Can anyone point me in the right direction of such an applicartion?

Perhaps you were advised to use Black Art, although I think that Global Mapper might also do all that. Good luck.Best regards.Luis

Global Mapper is excellent, but you can't save anything until you buy it.In the past many people have used MicroDEM.http://www.usna.edu/Users/oceano/pguth/website/microdem.htmI don't think it is quite as flexible as Global Mapper but the price is right. another possibility is fwtoolshttp://fwtools.maptools.org/or Quantum GIShttp://qgis.org/en/download/binaries.htmlscott s..
