Now when I go to start FS2004 it crashes to desk top because there is an initialization problem with default aircraft which is no longer present. How do I get around this in order to get FS2004 running again?Tom Helwick aka dc9manVery simple -1. Rename your FS9.cfg file to something like FS9.cfg BAK and then start up FS2004 - It will rebuild a fresh new copy using all of the original default settings including the original default flight.Note - any special tweaks you made to your FS9.cfg file will be lost using this method (they can be Copied and Pasted into it from your backed up copy).2. I prefer to use Notepad and open my FS9.cfg file with it and find the line which says situation=It will be followed by the complete path to the default flight (FLT) you are using. The crash is due to the fact that the aircraft it is seeking does not exist on your system anymore.Just delete that path info and FS2004 will use the original default flight and will start properly.Using that method you do not loose any tweaks. The FS9.cfg file is "hidden" by default. If you are using the windows search function to try to find it, you must invoke the "search hidden files and folders" option.Better yet, use My Computer, then select Tools from the menu at the top, then Folder Options, then View. Scroll down a little bit to the entry which says "Hidden files and folders" and place a tick mark in the box which says "Show hidden files and folders".While you are there, be sure the is NO tick mark on the next line which says "Hide extensions for known file types".Now you should be able to navigate to the location of your FS9.cfg file which, assuming a default installation will be:C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USER NAME\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9Note - Any cfg file can be opened and edited using Notepad. After you find the FS9.cfg file you can Right click on it and select "properties" and remove the "hidden" attribute. Many of us also make a shortcut to the FS9.cfg file and place it on our Desktop.Hope that helps. :(
