  1. Thanks Rudi, that did the trick ! Tom
  2. Just recently I noticed whenever I select any of the 2D cockpit items whether it's the full forward instrument panel or just an individual panel like the FMC it appears but is transparent and ghost-like in appearance. This is especially annoying with the full forward panel displayed because you can see through it and ground objects are visible like taxi way lines and ground equipment. Is there something I can adjust to make this go away and restore the density of the 2D panels? Tom Helwick, Livingston, Montana
  3. Just noticed yesterday on NGX flight that the beacon atop the fuselage was on but not flashing it was just a steady red light, any solution to this? I've tried cycling the anti-collision beacon switch on the overhead but nothing changes.Tom Helwick, Livingston, Montana
  4. *******,I'm having trouble installing the FPS limiter ( see my earlier post from today 11/15/11) it may be because I'm using the wrong component of Java. Earlier I had to download Java since this relatively new laptop was without it. Anything you can suggest would be appreciated. After purchasing PMDG's 737 NGX I'm forced to get involved with FSX whereas before I was pretty much a FS9 disciple. My only complaint with FSX is lousy frame rates which are at most times barley at 10. I purchased FSX Booster but that didn't seem to help much.Tom Helwick, Livingston, Montana
  5. Downloaded the FPs Limiter .2 rar but when I click on the download I get an 'unable to launch application' from Java stating in the details window that the launch file is missing <jnlp>. It's obvious I'm doing something wrong, does anyone have any suggestions?
  6. Thanks Jim I'll try your suggestion, also when I tried to install the program the few times I was trying to put it in the programs folder. Should FS9 have it's own dedicated folder? Thanks Again, Tom
  7. Yesterday after receiving my newly minted copy of FS2004 from Amazon I tried to install it on my new laptop which is equiped with Windows 7 Home and a i5 core processor. Well everything appeared to go swimmingly until we got to the 77% completed area when it stalled on the Amster.cab file on disk 4 and there it just hung up while CD ROM continued to spin away. I waited a considerable time for a load but nothing changed and I eventually aborted the installation, I tried this process three times each with same result .Does anyone have a clue as to what may be the cause of this, I sure would appreciate some direction. This is 64 bit OS with 6 GB of RAM. Thanks in Advance, Tom
  8. I have a brand new laptop 5 core with Windows 7, right now I'm trying to load disk 4 of FS2004 and get to 77% then it hangs up on the Amster.cab file and never gets any further. This is my third attempt at trying to install the program, anyone have any suggestions? Tom
  9. Thanks Bill, I'll check the dedicated forum out, thanks again for the tips. Tom
  10. I recently purchased a new new laptop with Windows 7 OS. I've been reading on Google that some folks have had issues running FS2004 after installing it on a Windows 7 machine. Have any of you had a problem with this OS and FS2004, and if you did what was done to correct it? I haven't installed the sim yet and if it appears that this going to be a can of worms I'll just stick with my desk top and Windows XP. Tom
  11. During the last week I have tried on multiple occasions to install Shez's software but haven't had any luck at all. After installing as per the readme texts all I get when firing up FS9 is a window informing me that it's 'Loading Scenery Objects.....' it get's to 1% on the bar graph then the sim freezes up and then I have to use the windows task manager to get out of the sim. Does anybody have a step by step approach you used to install this airport, if you do I would appreciate it very much. Thanks in advance. Tom Helwick, Livingston, Montana
  12. I've done everything I can think of to get KLGB to even show up, all I get is a boxed message saying 'Loading Scenery Objects', it then get's to about 1% complete when FS9 locks up and I have to use the windows manager to back out of it. I've followed the installation instructions in the readme text but to no avail, anybody have any ideas? This airport has sentimental value to me since I flew for Douglas out there back in the late 70's. Tom Helwick, Livingston, Montana aka dc9man
  13. Just completed a flight from Adak Island (PADK) in the Aleutian chain to Henderson Field at Midway Island (PMDY) only to discover on my arrival that there wasn't any airport, oops! So I downloaded a freeware of Midway and installed it and it looks great but for one detail, the landing gear of my 767-300 is about 3 feet below the surface of the tarmac. What do I do to correct this, I followed the designers instruction to the tee ? Tom Helwick, Livingston, Montana, USA aka dc9man
  14. I was enjoying a beautiful flight from ATL to BZN (Bozeman, Montana) in a PMDG 747-400 into a setting sun when just outside of Billings getting ready to start my descent when FS9 crahed to desktop telling me there wasn't enough memory. I have a Core2 Quad with an Invidia 9800 GTX video card so I was surprised when this happened. Running along side FS9 was Active Sky Evolution both of which were activated via Multi-Core Environment. Any suggestions as to how to avoid this in the future? Thank You in Advance, Tom Helwick, Livingston, Montana
  15. This is probably a shot in the dark but if there is anyone out there that flys the Wilco A320 please let me know if you have an answer to this. After performing a normal climb and level off with auto thrust activated the airspeed ever so slowly begins to increase until eventually it's in the barber poll. The N1 indicators show the blue arc where the thrust 'should' be but there is no reduction in RPM in fact it remains at the climb thrust RPM. I've checked Wilco's forum for solutions but the only tweak I could find was increasing the null on the throttles it helps in stabilizing the airspeed control in the climb but does nothing to elevate the problem in cruise. Also I use CH Products yoke and TQ, and interestingly enough there is no way I can get the TQ to operate the thrust levers either through FS9 or FSUIPC. Tom
  16. Fred, By different scenarios I mean those flights listed in MAAM's 'Select a Flight' section. No I cannot switch between different Avenger models while still within FS9, I must first exit FS9 then restart it again to try a different Avenger. Incidentally, this does not occur with any of the other aircraft installed in FS9. Tom
  17. When I flew the EC-47 in Vietnam the technique of keeping the tail flying after touchdown was taught by all our instructors as a method of maintaining direction control during roll out. Additionally, the 'tail in the air' maneuver focuses all the aircraft weight on the main gear allowing more efficient braking.
  18. OK Fred here's an update. I was able to make the canned flights work by leaving the 'Select a Flight' as the default opening page when FS9 finally loads but in order to select a different scenario I must first shutdown FS9 and then restart it. If you try to load a different scenario without first shutting FS9 down it tries to load but after a period it crashes to desktop, however inconvenient this may I still get all the options that were advertised with the software. Tom
  19. Fred, None of the flights work, when I select 'Fly Now' it tries to load the scenery but the loading scale never shows any progress and after a period of time it crashes to desk top. The good news I got the MAAM Avenger to work after I made it the default flight at my local airport (KLVM), however if I decide to switch to another Avenger model it crashes to desk top. Tom
  20. Just bought the TBM and with all your other products that I own I was really looking forward to flying it. However, everytime the aircraft is chosen the scenery loading scale never shows any progress then FS2004 abruptly crashes to desk top. I've uninstalled the aircraft and reinstalled it, I've downloaded the install file twice and reloaded it but all for naught, nothing seems to work. The Microsoft error report indicates that the bug is in the TBM file, I tried to copy the error report to send to you but Microsoft wouldn,t allow it. Can you help? Sincerely, Tom Helwick, Livingston, Montana, USA, Capt NWA retired
  21. Thanks Opa, that was slick, worked like a charm..............what I don't know about the program boggles the mind. Thanks Again ! Tom
  22. My default start up aircraft was an MD-11 NWA, I had to uninstall it due to some problems with fs2crew. Now when I go to start FS2004 it crashes to desk top because there is an initialization problem with default aircraft which is no longer present. How do I get around this in order to get FS2004 running again? Tom Helwick aka dc9man
  23. I own FS Crew for both the 747-400 and the MD-11. A few days ago I updated FS Crew via their web page and after installing same for both 747-400 and MD-11 I discovered that a. FS Crew didn't work on the 747 and b. when tried using it without FSCrew now the Auto Throttle function is inop. I tried reinstalling PMDG config files via the FS Crew start up page but that didn't solve anything. Completely uninstalled FS Crew for both 747 and MD-11 still no help. Are there any suggestions to solve this other than reinstalling both aircraft. Tom Helwick , Livingston, Montana retired NWA capt.
  24. I tried putting this on the PMDG forum but apparently the moderator didn't like the content. Anyway this is some info some of my retired NWA pals sent me regarding the MD-11 landing incidents the most recent at Narita in Japan involving a FedEx MD-11. These opinions do not reflect adversely on PMDG's excellent MD-11 rendition of which I am a proud owner. From time to time I thinks it's interesting to peer into the real world discussions of the aircraft we love to fly in our simulators and I think this qualifies in that catagory, please let me know what you think about it. Regards, Capt. Tom Helwick NWA retired, Livingston, MontanaFrom a co-workers Father who worked for Douglas.................. What happened here (in Narita) is the same as what happened in Hong Kong(to a China Airlines MD-11) and Newark NJ (to another FedEx MD-11) someyears ago. The hard landings, which resulted in ALL cases from failure of theaircraft to respond appropriately to pilot control inputs, resulted inrupture of the wing spar by the main gear oleo strut, breaking the wing; thelift from the wing not yet broken then caused the aircraft to roll, and turnupside down. In the case this morning, both wings broke - first the left, and then as the roll angle reached about 80
  25. Andrew, The install program queried as to whether you wanted the MegaScenery installed in FS9 or FSX or both, I selected both since I have both sims but I still dont believe either simulator has the scenery installed despite the fact that the install program says it was "successfully" installed. The scenery still looks like the rather non descript default scenery. Tom
