August 20, 200916 yr When I flew the EC-47 in Vietnam the technique of keeping the tail flying after touchdown was taught by all our instructors as a method of maintaining direction control during roll out. Additionally, the 'tail in the air' maneuver focuses all the aircraft weight on the main gear allowing more efficient braking.
