737 NG 2.0 Repaint Request

Featured Replies

Gentlemen,I am sure you guys are hard at work on the 737 NG 2.0. I was wondering if you might consider adding a repaint of the Boeing P-8A Poseidon from the US Air Force. I realize that their are some model differences like raked wingtips. I throughly enjoy the VC-25 paint for the 744F that simulated Air Force 1 even though there were model differences. Thanks and eagerly waiting.

I daresay they've considered it, but the P-8A Poseidon MMA is very different in many respects from the airliner versions of the 737, in fact being different enough to warrant a separate production line at Renton. It's a hybrid of modified 900ER wings and the 800 fuselage. As you probably know, it has weapon racks on the wings, a different nosecone, plus numerous different antennas and other detail changes, not least of which is an internal rotary weapons rack which requires 'bomb bay doors' on the rear fuselage. Moreover, it will certainly handle differently from other 737s, because it has a good deal of strengthening added to the construction and a considerably increased MTOW, not to mention vastly different cockpit avionics and a huge crew. That's quite a lot of differences, so having something which doesn't really look like, or act like the real thing doesn't fit in well with PMDG's ethos, i.e. don't forget that the P in PMDG stands for Precision. Who knows though? they may stick a Poseidon variant in the package, or they may even opt for the less radically different SIGINT version of the MMA, which deletes all the sonarbuoy weaponry and bomb racks and instead has an avionics pod on the underside, making it probably less difficult to model the changes.I guess we'll just have to wait and see, but if they don't, I imagine you can expect someone to do a pseudo repaint in fairly short order.Incidentally, the P-8A is not a US Air Force aircraft, it's a US Navy aircraft, primarily intended for ocean patrols against submarines, hence the name Poseidon, who was the Greek god of the seas, being the equivalent of the Roman sea god Neptune, which is of course the name of the aircraft the Poseidon will effectively replace, along with the Orion, who in mythology, was the great hunter.Having said that, it's my guess that the US Air Force are probably watching the thing with interest and may consider it as the basis for an AWACs aircraft to replace the 707s they currently use. Particularly since supplies of 707s they use to convert into Air Force aircraft are dwindling, and the 737 and 707 have basically the same cockpit shape and fuselage diameter. It would not be the first Navy design that ended up in the Air Force, the F4 Phantom is one famous example of that occurring.Al
