May 12, 200917 yr Howdy folks,I know the IMC issue with FS9/X has been beat to death. But the fact is that's how I like to fly into airports. I started simming with Charles Gulick back in 88. (Happy 20 years to me) I found that for me the IMC flying was the most challenging. I still like to fly the Dakota to waypoints that are DME intersections and then flying a low ceiling ILS. I then use FS Flight Keeper to see how well I did tracking my course and how close I was to hitting the waypoint. Ahhhhhh...nothing like flying with a few VOR/DME's, NDB, ILS, and hands on the yoke. Anyway,I've tried all kinds of weather programs to try and get IMC conditions. Most of the time when I get to the destination airport the weather is not even close to what I ordered. So I've dumped those programs and decided to just set it on my own. I'd like to know what others do to get close to IMC conditions. If the ceiling is 750' how do you manage to set that so it's actually at 750'? It seems to me that no matter what cloud type I use 750' equals something like 1500'. It does get frustrating. I tried FSX using multiple visability layers, but that doesn't help much, and the performance can become dismal. So if anyone is willing to share with me how you mange to get something that emulates IMC, I'd be eternaly grateful.Thanks,-Matt

Set the weather stations you wish it to apply to, then set BASE/TOPS & VIS Distance. Lots of fun with a GA twin losing an engine on TO as you disappear into the clag at 700'. Keep the bird flying, clean her up, then do a circuit and line up for an instrument approach. If that doesn't get you all sweaty--- well it does me! (And at CYYJ- keep away from nearby Mt. Tuam!!)
