June 7, 200916 yr Hello. I was hoping someone might be able to answer a question for me.Does anyone know if there is any kind of a limit to the number of items (layers) you can have in the scenery library? Thanks!
June 7, 200916 yr Not that anyone knows of. Possibly something like 512, or 999 - many went over 300 already. Incl. me.
June 7, 200916 yr Author How about a total number of .bgl or .bmp files? Anything that anyone knows about there?
June 7, 200916 yr Nope. Also no limit to todays knowledge. Your disk is your limit. One thing I can say for sure, quicker is gonna annoy you the loading time of FS9 than reaching the limit of files/layers, IF any.
June 7, 200916 yr I had 1158 in mine at one time. But I'm re-arranging it now so I'm back down to around 300. I'll have it back to the 1158 in a few days.Mark

June 8, 200916 yr What's the point? FS9 loadtime is immense, and you fly one airport at the time anyway...Actually, the load times are really fast. The thing that I've found that slows down the load are the AI aircraft. That's appears to be the real bottle neck. If I install many AI packages, the load time goes up exponentially. One more thing that helps is that I've gone through all of the sceneries and removed all static aircraft, static humans, and static anything that I don't particularly care for. I've also globalized many textures and static object libraries. FS9, depending on where I'm flying, loads in less then a minute without AI Aircraft and 1158 sceneries.Mark

June 8, 200916 yr I'm a software engineer...I wrote some utilities to do much of the work. Automatically generated Scenery.cfg, duplicate texture finders, an installation structure which is easily rebuilt. I push a couple of buttons and presto, instant FS9! Oh, I wrote a little SQL Server 2005 database to manage a lot of the stuff. A couple of SSIS packages can pull everything into the structure and a bunch of stored procedures do the rest. These kinds of configurations are child's play compared to some of the engines that I've written over my last 27 years of software development. Piece of cake...and if only the FS9 system management was half as good, I'd never see a CTD again :)Mark
