Black screen on aircraft preview and flight screen in FSX

Featured Replies

Hi all,Sorry to bring up something that has probably been dealt with already, but I haven't been able to find an easy fix in the forum. What I did: Install a third-party aircraft. What happened: (1) The box on the main screen where the aircraft preview normally displays is now blank; and(2) The main flight window (cockpit etc.) is also blank. It was working perfectly before I added the new aircraft (which I have subsequently deleted).Any ideas for a fix?My system:Six week old Dell StudioWindows Vista Home Premium SP1 64 bit256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 457015.6" 720p WLED (1366x768) FSX (all up to date)Many thanks in advance Nick

Nick,I had this problem and I disabled IE8. This eliminated the blank screen problem. KenS

Hmmm.. seemed to have muck this post up somehow... anywayNick, you didn't mention if the third party aircraft was a 2004 or FSX model. I reckon you might have a problem with your video card though. In my experience 512MB is a min for card memory otherwise things start dropping out ..like the aircraft preview. You might also play with your resolution. A lower res may bring the preview and cockpit back. It will also tell you your vid card is not handling the program. Nick are from NZ?TerryAuckland

No. No, Mav, this is not a good idea.

Sorry Goose, but it's time to buzz the tower!

Hi Terry,Many thanks for your post.I thought it was FSX, but suspect it was actually 2004.What's annoying is that it was running quite well (at least to me) before I installed this - I'd been using FSX successfully for a few weeks, not a problem. After I'd installed the aircraft and run FSX, Vista or FSX asked me to approve access to a number of files (the security approvals dialogue boxes like this http://www.fsinsider.com/tips/Pages/TrustandVerify.aspx), which I did. I think that was what caused the problem.Have tried adjusting the resolution, but not much luck there unfortunately.Yep, I'm in Auckland too.Nick

Hi Ken,Thanks for your suggestion.I've given this a go, but no luck unfortunately.Still baffled!Nick

After I went and downloaded the MD-83 flyable package from here (the second one) I downloaded it by merging the original MD-83 file with the new one and copying over the old cfg with the new one. And now I can't fly! Im so worried :( http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt...SCpzflQe33dTRCgI have had the exact same issue. Please , someone out there has to know how to fix it! But for me everything is black as your are at the airport, the loading screen, free flight screen below the info, everywhere! But the sounds work! Please, someone help us, this is so frustrating!!!!!!!

I have also tried everything Microsoft suggests at "How to troubleshoot display issues" in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/263039/en-us, including updating all my drivers (which were all up to date). In terms of hardware accelleration, I wasn't able to do what Microsoft suggests in thier guide because ATI disables the troubleshoot function, but I did use the ATI CCC function to reduce all my graphics performance indicators (anti-aliasing, etc.). I have also tried performing a clean boot, as suggested here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796/en-us. None of this has helped. :( I still think the problem has something to do with the "trust and verify" procedure, but no idea what. Will a uninstall and reinstall of FSX help? (I really don't want to have to do this because my CDs are 20km away buried in a storage facility!)

Hi Nick, The link you provided explains the trust and verify issue quite well. Many of us who 'ported' over our FS9 aircraft to FSX had to suffer the same problem ie going through the numerous pop up menus for each aircraft. I don't think it is the trust and verify per se which is the problem but it does seem as though the aircaft itself is not designed specifically for FSX in all its different update states SP1, SP2 etc. So, you could try uninstalling the model and deleting your FSX.cfg file. Shut down and start up again (the FSX.cfg will generate a new file), and see if your can get the system back to where it was working fine. This would at least isolate the problem. Or, you could try a system restore, which if you've got system restore turned on, should have made a restore point before you installed the new aircaft (assuming you used an installer to load the model). Which part of the city are you from? Terry

No. No, Mav, this is not a good idea.

Thanks Terry, I'll give that a shot.I've since tried removing the elements under the "trusted" section of the fxs.cfg file, but that didn't help. I'll try your suggestions! For the record, here are some screen shots of the problem.I'm a city dweller!Cheers,Nick

I've done a "repair" reinstall with my FSX DVDs which has fixed the problem (indeed, FSX is working better than ever!). Still no idea what happened. Thanks to everyone for your helpful suggestions.

I just did the repair of FSX option. Does it replace all of the scenery files such as GEX, UTX and REX airport files?ThanksMatt

Matt,Yes. You will need to reinstall GEX and REX textures (not reinstall the programs) and run your UTX Configuration Tool.
