Waco UPF 7 guages still missing

Featured Replies

Helllo again, Many thanks to everyone, but I guess I don't get it. I am competely new at this, so please bear with me. I started over and I have the UPF-7_FSX.zip file. I unzipped it and put the contents of the subfolder "upf7" containing "model", "panel", "sound", "texture" into the "simobjects/airplanes" folder in the FSX directory. I copied the "CAB" folder to the "Gauges" folder in the FSX directory. I am missing the the compass and the voltmeter, (I think) and some of you good people said to open the "panel.cfg" file and look for "Cessna_208B_XML.cab" and "AirCreation_582SL.cab" and copy them over to the "Gauges" folder in FSX. I thought I did that but it did not work and now I think I don't know how to copy things from files I have opened with "Notepad". I am now annoyed at myself and feel quite lost, it seems I am as thick as two short planks. Any help and clarification will be appreciated. May life smile upon you all, Fritz

1. I am assuming you are flying in VC mode and not 2D panel mode.I personally do not see either the Cessna_208 or AirCreation_582 gauges in my version. As I noted, You will most likely need the two FS9 default aircraft gauge files, from the Tri-Motor and Lockheed Vega, to get the two missing gauges.Do you have a copy of FS9? Is it loaded? If so, go to the FS9\aircraft directory and find each of those planes. In the FS9\aircraft\Lockheed_Vega\panel directory you will find the Lockheed_Vega.cab file. Same for the Ford_Trimotor. Copy the two .cab files to the FSX\gauges directory, and you should be good to go.To check if these are the correct gauges to get, check your FSX\Simobjects\Airplanes\Waco UPF-7\panel\panel.cfg file, scroll down to the [Vcockpit01] section near the bottom, and look for the ammeter and magnetic compass gauges. You should be able to figure out what gauge file you need from there (I assume it is what I listed above). If you don't have FS9, maybe somebody can help you get the appropriate gauge files (I'd get all the default gauge files.).

Hi Fritz,I've got this very nice bird working with both gauges, so it is possible. If I'm reading your post right I think you may not have realized that you copy the gauge files from their present locations to the main Guages folder.1) Find the Cessna_208B_XML.cab file in your \Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\C208B\Panel folder and copy it to your \Flight Simulator X\Gauges folder2) Find the AirCreation_582SL.cab file in your \Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\AirCreation_583SL\Panel folder and copy it to your \Flight Simulator X\Gauges folder. There's no need to edit any .cfg files. You only need to make the gauge files available to any aircraft in the system by locating them in the main Gauges folder. I only pointed you to the panel.cfg file in your previous post to show you which gauges were not available.I hope you are not too confused. On the bright side you know a lot more about how the files and folders are organised.Good luck, and let us know how you get on.

I should have read your first post more carefully. I didn't realize there was a version updated for FSX available. The panel.cfg file I quoted was from the original Waco designed for FS9. I guess the updated plane uses FSX gauges where FS9 gauges were originally used. But part of the installation routine for the updated FSX version must have called for you to copy the two .cab files from the respective panel directories of the Aircreation and Cessna_208 planes into the FSX\Gauges directory. As Mike noted above, you do not need to edit the panel.cfg file. Nor can you copy anything from the panel.cfg file into the gauges directory. The panel.cfg file tells FSX what gauges to use and where to put them in the panel(s). It's just a list.Unfortunately, you are stuck between two ways that FS uses for places to put gauges. A few versions ago, all gauge files were put in FS?\gauges. This way, all gauges could be shared between planes. Then in FS9 I believe, the developers changed it so FS would first look in the local fs9\aircraft\aircraft_name\panel directory for gauges, and then look in the fs9\gauges directory for the gauges if it didn't find what it was looking for in the first location. Problem is, if the gauge file (contained in the .cab file) is in the local directory for a plane, no other plane can use the gauges stored in that .cab file. (Also, in FSX, they moved the planes to the Simobjects\Airplanes directory.)In order for the gauges in the cab files to be accessible to all planes, you need to copy the .cab files from the respective FSX\Simobjects\Airplanes\aircraft_name\panel directories into the FSX\Gauges directory.
