Flight Simulator 2004 - What have I done.

Oh Dear guys....it's not going well.Hello people. This is the situation.I had and still have FS2004 on my computer. It used to be on my old computer with Windows XP. However, that computer got 'damaged'. I brought a new one with Vista. The old computer was non responsive and I couldnt transfer any files across. I thought - 'Right, I'll install FS and all my addons from fresh as if Ive just brought it'. What a bad Idea. FS works fine and thanks to the higher spec computer (190GB on the C drive instead of 27GB on my old one) I am getting on fine. Well sort of. No Ai is installing. World of Ai wont install and neither will project Ai. I tried it with administrator privaledges turned off then turned on. I reinstalled it and it still doesnt work. All I want is a decend Ai program that gives me Ai with as much quality of World of Ai. Decent Models and up to date repaints and schedules. It installs the package and ttools compiles it fine. It just doesnt appear. The old traffic appears but this doesnt. Then I re-installed AFCAD. Madeira nor any of the Canary Islands (Tenerife...) have AFCADs that I can edit. I want rid of the old default AFCADS but I cant find one. Previously. I had every World of Ai package going. Most airports had new AFCADS designed by me (over 100 new AFCADS). I had EZ scenery and had customised various Airports. I cant get EZ scenery back as I dont think it will transferfrom my old computer. I paid money for that!! Not to mention the various free addons from AVSIM and other sites. It took me over a year to customise my FS2004 to how I wanted it and I am back to square 1. The begining. All of it lost. I am slowly rebuilding it but without all the programs and addons I used to have things are looking bleak. If the virus that broke into my computer, destroying all my anti-virus programs, was anything like the hacker that destroyed AVSIM (which is was) then you will know where I am coming from.Thank You for listening

Welcome,MichaelSounds like you've had a time of it. 1. Don't install FS to the default Program Files folder. Make a new folder to install to. Don't install anything important to Program Files in Vista.B. Goggle, find, install, and run a program called Combofix on your old computer (in safe mode). It might bring it back to life so you can get your old files off of it.Good luck. Report backBob

Really? ...I have not see this problem with other applications. Installing to the Program Files folder would require you to fun FS9 with Admin. privlages. You have installed the AI packs "Run as Administrator". Have you then run FS9 as "Run as Administrator"? This is the fix for me when using Ultimate Traffic.

Why don't you log in as Administrator?!? Just have to enable Administrator login under Vista, and no problems installing anything anywhere. At least I didn't have any, and I do also use WoAI. And yes, install it into custom folder, I have it on another disk even.

Quite true.I used Combofix on a former laptop I had, damaged by a virus which even hacked the installed antivirus (so it's looking very similar to the one you've got), and that tool brought my old laptop back to a new life.Meantime I bought a new one, but I'm still using the old laptop somewhen and it's working fine and stable just like it was before being 'virussed'.Fortunately, no need for me to get files from the old laptop......... my archive is safely stored offline on an external 160 Gb HD.

I have lowly Vista 32. Even logged in as Administrator I could not modify FS files. Yes, FS installed and ran fine, but I could not modify the cfg file without going through extra steps. So, being the lazy person that I am, I turned off UAC( I know, not for everyboby), and I don't have to do anything special to get anything to work. FS is on a different drive, also.Bob

Thanks for all your help guys.I think I have found some solutions to my problems. Firstly, when I installed FS2004 I did the express install (the one where you dont have to use all the CD's to install). This could have meant that certain files where not installed.Secondly, I cannot find my traffic.bgl anywhere. Surely this is the file you need in order for the Ai to show up. The default traffic shows up which is strange. Withoutthe traffi.bgl I think it wont work. I will re-install FS2004 and choose custom install. I am now logged on as administrator with no change at all. I coincidently found out that I was already logged on as administrator before this started. Thanks
