June 27, 200916 yr Hi guys - I use FS2004 with the PMDG 747.I was flying at my cruising altitude, with everything going smoothly; level flight, constant speed, etc. I saved my flight (using the ; button), and when i came back to the sim, i loaded the saved flight.Ok, so it loads the flight fine, and the flight continues. But, the FMC is saying Check Alt Target. The altitude selector (MPC?) is set correctly. But, i was flying at cruise and was level when i saved, but when i loaded, the plane keeps climbing, even tho VNAV is on and the FMC still has the cruise alt set. Also, the speed of the plane drops and wont go back. Now, the MCP controls the altitude rather than VNAV.Turning off AP and back on doesnt help...Is my saved flight ruined? :( Thanks! June 27, 200916 yr Author Ok, sorry, i just worked out the altitude - i set the MCP to my cruise alt and the FMC updates and gets me there...But by this time, my plane is well below the target speed but refuses to accelerate still. Also, pressing the IAS button (so the speed reading appears) and changing the speed (up or down) doesnt make any difference. Are there any bugs will loading and saving mid flight? June 27, 200916 yr The PMDG manual specifically advises against saving flights in this way, as unexpected quirks may appear when those flights are retrieved. I have been able to save flights with the PMDG 737 aircraft, but the magenta flight path displayed on the HSI is often erased when such flights are retrieved.Retrieving saved flights in the PMDG 747, however, results in a total blackout of all primary flight displays on my computer. Also the landing gear becomes unresponsive to deployment or retraction commands, regardless of whether they were keyboard commands or assigned key commands on the flight yoke. I guess the anomalies encountered in this circumstance are computer system dependent.Tony Best regards from Tony, at the helm of the flying desk.

What I have indicated below applies when a "Save/;" was done with Thrust Mode=SPD, Roll Mode=LNAV, and Pitch Mode=VNAV.The "Check Alt Target" message almost always appears after a Load. I just CLR the message but it does NOT reappear, i.e., only have to do it once. The altitude on the MCP is always correct and never have to adjust. On the issue of the speed dropping....... when this happens, and it happens very frequently after a Load, the Thrust Mode could be blank or indicate SPD. In either case, what restores the appropriate speed is to select VNAV even if the PFD indicates VNAV mode is active. I have also seen situations where the cruise speed in the FMC on the VNAV CRZ page gets reset to a value significantly lower than what it was when I saved the flight (e.g., 0.860 M when I saved it, 0.742 M after doing the Load). In this case I upselect the appropriate mach speed, I EXECute the change and the speed gradually returns to normal.Hope this helps.Zach zachlog
June 27, 200916 yr Author ... what restores the appropriate speed is to select VNAV even if the PFD indicates VNAV mode is active. You were dead right, THANKS!I find it strange that my speed target takes longer the higher alt i am. Im at FL330 and it takes ages. Iv seen this in other flight sims also, so i guess thats normal...#FleaJump - My PMDG manual says its the correct way of doing it. To quote the manual (CD version), Page 9:'We recommend using the MSFS [Microsoft Flight Sim] Flight/Save menu for saving a flight or scenario. If you save your flight using the MSFS Save Situation Menu [whatever that is!], your current cockpit state will be saved simultaneously. This seems a little ambiguous to me, tho... Seems there is no clear-cut way of saving. Adrian Burley London, UK
