July 7, 200916 yr I just posted the following to the Cloud 9 forum, but wondered if anyone else out there had the same problem with their LAX or any other scenery? If so, did you find some sort of fix for it, or conflict with it? This is a totally awesome scenery package when it works. I can't seem to find a really decent LAX that isn't Hi-Res stuff. For me, HI-Res looks good from the air, but on the ground it is terrible seeing aircraft, runways, taxiways and ground equipment painted on the tarmac. When I turn nav to 117.00 it flashes back and forth from Hi-Res to normal, so that is out.Any help would be sincerely appreciated.JohnSeveral weeks ago I purchased the LAX 101. I installed as per instructions except turning off anti-virus software. There were no concourses, just aircraft, jetways, and the main terminal. I then turned off the anti-virus, reinstalled the LAX 101 and the latest Add on Manager. At this point, I double checked and set all the settings recomended in the manual, and in this forum. I then activated the scenery. At this point everything looked awesome. I flew from LAX to SLC without a problem. I Flew from SLC back to LAX and everything worked as advertised. Yesterday, I flew from Tokyo (RJAA) to LAX, and upon arrival all the concourses were gone again. I thought that maybe it might be some sort of memory problem, so first thing this morning after the computer had been off for 12 hours, I started the flight from LAX and still no concourses. There has been no changes since I origanally had the scenery working. Nothing new has been added, no parameters changed, everything is as it was when the software was working. The hard drives are defragged prior to using flight simulator. Since I can't post an image here, all I can tell you is what I see. All scenery surrounding the airport and runways are fine. The main terminal and concourses at each end of the main terminal seem to be fine. All the concourses in between are gone. There are jetways hanging in mid air, and aircraft gathered around where the concourses should be. At this point I am having a hard time justifying the fact that i spent good money and went through a lot of trouble making sure everything is just right to only have a software application work only twice.
July 7, 200916 yr I can vouch for this package--when it's working, that is. Seems really strange. I've had similar problems before with FSDT's O'Hare (which uses the same Add-on Manager thing) and ImagineSim's Atlanta, but fixed it by turning "scenery complexity" (under "Scenery" in display settings) all the way to the right. Hope this helps. Good luck!
July 7, 200916 yr I don't know if this will help but typically, that is caused by the BGLMAN.dll and BGLMAN.dat files. If KLAX has an issue with the files then the terminals disappear. I do know that Cloud9 kept turning out different versions of their BGL manager and now that Could9 is going the way of Lago, FS Dream Team has picked up the BGL manager and run with it. They have another version of it that has exactly the same name as the Cloud9 version. It gets way to confusing because FS Dream Team actually tells you to uninstall products, (that are not listed as being owned by them), so their new BGL manager can take over control. You then have to re-install the old products, (KLAX, EHAM, etc), or they won't work! Yuck...what a mess that is and in my opinion very invasive and inconsiderate to the people who actually own the products...like me. It is also another reason that I'm extremely hesitant to ever purchase a FS Dream Team product, it's too much of a hassle.Regardless, if I were you I'd do an uninstall and a re-install. When you get done with the re-install and have everything registered...take a flight. If it all worked correctly then exit FS9 and copy both the BGLMAN.dll and BGLMAN.dat files from the FS9 modules folder to a backup location somewhere safe. If your KLAX becomes corrupted again, try copying the 2 backup files to the FS9 modules folder overwriting what you've got in there.Mark
July 7, 200916 yr I had a simliar problem with the bglman.dll file - Norton AV labeled it as a trojan. Per the advice from others on this forum, I uninstalled the KLAX scenery, went into the modules folder, deleted the bglman.dat file, then reinstalled the scenery. I also went to Cloud9's site and downloaded their most recent addon manager (installer contains bglman and all related files), then installed that file last....so far, so good. I have made a backup FS9 folder containing everything, and it gets updated as necessary with any/all changes/additions/etc. Good luck!Jim Jim BlakeCaptain, SWA Virtual AirlinesReal World C172 Pilot, AOPA #06034701
July 8, 200916 yr "I don't know if this will help but typically, that is caused by the BGLMAN.dll and BGLMAN.dat files. If KLAX has an issue with the files then the terminals disappear. The Addon Manager (BGLMAN.dll) belongs to Virtuali...FSDT, and always has, and is used by c9 as well as FSDT. It checks which c9 /FSDT products you have installed, then installs the appropiate files. Obviously, it has to be updated whenever a new c9 / FSDT product is released in order for it to recognise the latest product. After installing any c9 / FSDT product, download the latest Addon Manager from the c9 products page, and always install that last. Don't be confused as to it's name...the c9...FSDT Addon Manager is one and the same. The OP should keep checking back on the c9 forum, Virtuali will give support as soon as he reads it.Russell.
July 8, 200916 yr Ah, interesting Russell...Thanks for that information! I'd like to revise your statement a bit if you wouldn't mind too much. The BGL manager checks what Cloud9/FSDT software you have and then asks you to uninstall a perfectly clean and working installation of KLAX, EHAM, and others in order to use it.Just one thing, uninstalling KLAX in order use the latest BGL manager, really doesn't appear to be so obvious to me. Any insight as to why Virtuali/Cloud9/FS Dream Team would require the uninstall/reinstall of the Cloud9 products in order to use a totally different airport from FS Dream Team? Please advise and thanks!Mark
July 8, 200916 yr Hi Mark, I was commenting only on your statement that the Addon Manager was a c9 thing, which FSDT had picked up on and run with. It is, and always has been, a Virtuali thing, used by c9. As to why it asks you to uninstall other products (unless there is a later ver. available) I've no idea, sorry. Virtuali would give you a far more qualified answer to that on the c9 forum.Russell.
July 8, 200916 yr That's quite all right Russell...I understand. I just thought that you might have some affiliation with the companies because you knew that the manager obviously needed to be updated because of new offerings from Cloud9 and that it installs the appropriate files. It sounds so easy too. Anyway, that's why I asked you about more insight into why a perfectly good and functioning installation of a piece of software needed to be removed, simply to have a new piece of software installed that might not make any impact for you. It almost sounds like we're positioning ourselves for other company's software installations. Given the fragile environment of FS9, (sometimes), and with all of the copyright protection out there today, one has to wonder if it is always wise to install that latest BGL manager or not.On a side note, whenever I write a piece of software that is on a clear SDLC, I ensure that there is a way to implement changes without doing an uninstall of it unless absolutely necessary. If I've got 2 completely seperate pieces of software from different companies, I never make someone uninstall/reinstall another company's software to position the system to satisfy a different company's needs. It's not very customer oriented and a little self serving. That is if this is the case and I'm not off base...which I am frequently :)Mark
July 8, 200916 yr I must say, I got a fairly rapid response from Cloud 9, considering the difference in time zones. They recommended excluding the FS9/modules from anti-virus scans, and reinstalling the addon manager. At the time of my previous post, the anti-virus has been turned off except for email, and the FS9 directory has always been excluded. I removed the addon manager and reinstalled it, and had the same effect as before. No Concourses. I then removed all of the Cloud9 program, and the addon manager, cleaned up the registery, defragged the drive. After this I reinstalled everything and everything appears to be as advertised. Ive opened the airport twice, and it looks great. The caveat is that I had already performed two flights prior to everything dissappearing. That being said, I will try several flights in the next few days to see if everything stays with me.It is a shame that a person has to jump through all these hoops to get what they paid good money for. I would hate to think that I have to reinstall this airport after every third flight.Thank you all for your guidance and suggestions, I will post again if there are any more problems after several flights.John
July 8, 200916 yr This is to ironhorsmn, I hope I didn't scare you away with my pet rant of the BGLMAN situation. How is your system...did it all work out OK? Jim's earlier suggestion of checking your anti-virus software, (if you're running one), could also be spot on. Sorry to get off on a tangent here because I think that fixing your install is the primary concern :)I was writing the above and posted it 3 minutes after your last response and didn't see it until afterwards. Glad to hear you're moving forward...Mark
July 8, 200916 yr Hey Mark,So far everything seems to be in order, but I shall see after a few flights. Thank you for your reply. Your (rant) if you will is informative, and duly noted.I have always been curious about dreamteam, but they don't offer a lot for me as the airports that I fly into are pretty much no no's or near no no's for a 747 which I fly pretty much exclusively. I use the PMDG 747, and am quite comfortable with it as I have been a flight mechanic on a 747 for a number of years, and this aircraft seems the most realistic that I could find. I am not so sure whether I would ever buy anything from dreamteam, but your post does offer a lot of influence to the negative. I would rather install the software, set it up using the instructions, and be able to use it as advertised without jumping through a lot of hoops to get it to work. Thanks again.John
