Cannot get FSX to load in Vista

Featured Replies

Hi all,Apologies if this has been covered before.I cannot load FSX on a new PC running Vista. I have installed then repaired then uninstalled and reinstalled. This appears to have made no difference. When I click on FSX on my desktop the main loading screen comes up and then it always says "completing setup" and the bar goes to 100% and then "building database objects" I think is the next one that goes to 100% and then the main loading screen just disappears.Does anyone know how to fix this please? This was never an issue with my old PC running XP.Many thanks,Charles

See if this helps:1. Click Start.2. Type in the search box MSCONFIG.3. Hit Enter.4. Go to the services tab.5. Check the box Hide (all) Microsoft Services (It's near the OK/Cancel/Apply buttons).6. Click Disable All.7. Go to the Startup tab.8. Click Disable all.9. Click Apply.10. Click Close.11. Restart your computer.See if you can launch FS X.

Try deleting your FSX.cfg and then restarting FSX. FSX.cfg is hidden so you'll have to show hidden files then delete it. I'm also wondering what version of FSX you have installed. You should install FSX first, start FSX, exit, then install any upgrades or Acceleration. The fact that you're seeing "Completing Setup" when you start FSX implies to me that you never fully installed FSX properly.Best regards,Jim Young

Thanks for this - I tried this but it still comes up with the FSX title loading page - says it is completing setup and then disappears. I thought it might be something to do with having Kaspersky Internet Security running so tried disabling that but still no joy.

Thanks for this - I am trying to get the "Deluxe Edition" to work. Having installed, repaired, uninstalled and reinstalled it says it is completing setup every time. I never had an issue with using it in XP. Deleting the FSX.cfg file and then restarting FSX results in the same loop of the title page loading, saying it is completing setup, and then the screen closes and nothing else happens.Any more ideas guys please?

Turn off Vista UAC and try to start FSX up.

I would go a step further - Turn off UAC prior to installing FSX - and of course be sure you are running as Adminstrator. Many posts I have seen on this subject also recommend that FSX not be installed on Vista under the "Program files" section, which is the default location.Apparently Vista assigns a higher level of "security" to that folder. They suggest installing elsewhere - perhaps to C:\FSX or something similar.

Have you checked your Event Viewer to see if there's an error msg related to your inability to load FSX? Check to see if any "event" related to "Error 1722" or "Error 1603". These are two common errors that occur when FSX fails to load. For instance, you might find an error like this in the Event Viewer:"Error 1722 There is a problem with this Windows installer. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." Best regards,Jim Young

Thank you all for your help - nothing appears to be making it work. I will carry on using my old PC with XP for now until I have more time to do in-depth troubleshooting. It is frustrating that it is not "plug and play" on XP.

Try clicking the Right mouse button on the icon to launch FSX, and selecting Run As Administrator from the menu.
