any other overclock suggestions?

Featured Replies

I currently have a system built around an Intel 8400, 4 GB of RAM, and Windows XP. I recently overclocked the CPU to 4Ghz with underwhelming results. Yes, there seems to be a few FPS increase but not much. My new videocard is a Nvidia 9800 GTX+ 512Mb. The new videocard upped my FPS 1 to 2 per second at the most. Can any of you computer experts take a look at my specs below and make any suggestions based on my hardware

Robbie--need more specifics on what kind of frame rates you're seeing before/after the overclock.I don't see anything in your memory config that could be tweaked to produce much of an improvement...4-4-4-12 timing at nearly 900MHz on DDR2 isn't bad. If you could get it to run at 1T command timing (perhaps by bumping up the voltage) that would help...but I don't know that particular RAM and whether >1.9v would be safe for it.My gut feel is that if you're getting low frame rates (based on realistic expectations), it's probably a software issue and not hardware.RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO

Thanks for all of your help. I guess I want at least 15 to 20 fps in all settings at all times - even with the LDS-767. That is not going to happen with my overclocked Core 2 e8400 system. I am going to have to jump up to an i7 and go for 4Ghz - At that point, I had better see at least 20 fps with max sliders and my good ol LDS 767 (I guess I will need three sticks of good DDR3 SDRAM and a good Nvidia 285 videocard) with all the fancy add on sceneries.Take care,RH
