Same error everytime...I wonder if its my computer?

Featured Replies

I keep getting the same error everytime, without fail, 5-20 minutes into any flight, anywhere in the world. This started happening about 3 weeks ago. The error report ususally says "modname: unknown" and always shows the following files:C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9\fs9.CFG.txtC:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9\dxdiag.xmlC:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9\scenery.cfgI've reinstalled fs9 countless times, completely wiped my computer clean, re-installed my video card disk. The error appears with or without any addon ai or scenery. I have nothing else to go on. Does anyone else have this issue, and could it be a mother board or video card problem? Is there a way to test this? This is my computer specsOS: WIndows XP pro (5.1 build 2600)Manufacturer: Gateway 831GMBios: Default system BiosProcessor: Intel P4 3.00GHZ (2 cpus)memory: 2542mb rampage file: 664mb used, 2536mb availableDirectX version: Directx 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)Any help would be so greatly apprieciated...I AM LOST!!!! :(P.S. the reason I think it may be more than the game is because my computer will randomly reboot by itself and locks up on other apps.

Hello,

P.S. the reason I think it may be more than the game is because my computer will randomly reboot by itself and locks up on other apps.
Maybe some corruption (s) in your OS.If possible a backup of important things and a format - reinstall of OS will cure problems. You can eventually try a restore point or a OS repair .. but I will not rely on this .. if it's corruption(s)Regards.bye.gifGus.

Stupid question here since I am no techie...How do you reformat on windows? I havent done that since the old DOS days when you would type in format C!

I was looking at the listing of files that you posted and noticed this...C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9\fs9.CFG.txtShouldn't that be fs9.cfg?Also, I ran into an issue like yours a number of years ago and traced it back to the video card. I'm not saying that's what's happening to your system, but, do you have a spare video card or one that you can borrow from a friend for testing? That way, at least you can eliminate it from the list of possibilities :)Mark

bigdbronco,Mark said: '..traced it back to the video card'. Thinking along those lines, I note you did not list what video card you have. And the '*.cfg.txt' being cited in error might indicate FS9 is not recognizing you card (or the 'video disk' files), so go look at FS9.cfg and see what 'device' is listed. You could move/rename/delet your cfg to see what video card a re-built FS9.cfg is actually 'seeing'. Ck google for latest drivers for whatever card you have as any 'CD' file are usually YEARS old. Sounds like some type of 'OOM' glitch.Chuck BNapamule

Hello,Can I emphasize on the PS from the OP

P.S. the reason I think it may be more than the game is because my computer will randomly reboot by itself and locks up on other apps.
And : 5-20 minutes into any flightReinstalled FS9 and also video card driver many time Graphic drivers from his graphic card CD must no give problems (and they worked before)The main prob is: (IMHO)"Reboot by itself on other apps"OS corruption ...Or (but maybe) overheating of hardware part ..... or .. power supply not reliable .....I will consider FS9 not the source probs.Format:

One of the ways: For WinXP at least..Windows OS in CD driveReboot PCIn Bio set CD drive as first boot deviceAfter boot from OS CD ask for installChoices will appearsThere you can choice to format the HD. (Full NTFS format I advice)After you can install again the OSAt first reboot (let OS CD in drive) .. go in BIO and reset HD as first boot device.Install will continue.Regards.bye.gifGus.

Something that caught my attention,....random reboot; You may also check if you or someone else has overclocked your system, voltages that are off can cause the random reboots or worse. I noticed the same symptom while OC'ing my computer recently. It will cause your hardware to act very funky! With that said, power supply fluctuations should also be considered as someone already mentioned.Hope this helped some.Mel

Thank you all for the input. I have reformatted my computer and I'm running only the default FS9 program (no addons). It still crashes. I am afraid it must be a video card problem? I have a VisionTek XTASY X300SE Hypermemory from ATI (RADEON X300 SE) 256MB

Sorry to hear that. Are you sure you cannot borrow a video card from someone to test it before you have to buy a new one? I mean, it still could be a motherboard or memory issue too. Also, just in case, make sure that if you have a motherboard with on-board video that it's disabled in the BIOS.Mark

Mark,I just got back from buying a new video card (ATI Radeion HD4350 512MB) and installed it. Confident that this would solve my issues, I started up FS9 only to have it crash within a few minutes. this time it says visualfx.dll 2 times, and the third crash said weather.dll. I was using default weather. So maybe it wasnt the video card??
Hello,I think so.The good thing coming out of all this so far is you are now owner of two good graphic cards.Maybe read this can help :( http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtop...hl=visualfx.dllRegards.bye.gifGus.

Hello,I have this particular file in:C:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9148 Ko (152.393 octets)Regards.bye.gifGus.

I tried the below and I looked in the BIOS settings after rebooting my computer and clicking f2 to get there, but I dont see the usb part. Can you help me locate that? I am not much of a guru when it comes to that stuff!! "well! after a year of crashes i finally found out the problem. in the bios there is two settings for usb. full speed 12 mbs and hi speed 480 mbs. even with the latest asus bios update the usb always remained at full speed causing the thrustmaster usb controller to crash with the message fatal error visualfx.dll"

Hello,That's many bios settings depending of wich kind of bio you have and wich motherboad type. This setting is not in my bio "Phoenix Award Bio" (MB Abit IC7-G).The only Bio chapter concerning USB is in On Chip PCI DeviceMethink you have nothing to change there if any.You can also check in the motherboard manual for maybe have more clues. It can be other reasons for have your error message I suppose.Regards.bye.gifGus.
