August 7, 200916 yr Priced at 1649.99The Gateway FX6801-09h desktop PC packs a powerful punch thanks to the Intel Core i7 920 processor and a barely-fathomable 12GB DDR3 SDRAM for blazing fast performance. It's also home to super powerful NVIDIA GeForce GTX285 graphics with 1GB dedicated graphics memory and so much more. If you want a PC that does it all, this is the one. More Info WebID: 10124869 Mfr. August 7, 200916 yr Hi,1. Over priced.2. No need for 12GB RAM.3. Very nice for FS04, OK for FSX.Thanks,
August 8, 200916 yr For comparison, price wise -vs- performance, check out (at most grocery store magazine racks) the MaximumPC Sept 2009 issue. They list $690 AMD Phenom x3, a $1,420 Intel i7 920 2.66 Ghz, and a $$3,525 i7 975 Extreme rigs. Matched, and tested. Not your 'store bought' rig. Must put it together yourself. But for the money, you can't go wrong. More value, better performance. Perhaps you might also see a video card that will match i7 better and make FSX fly like a FS2004. And you don't need more than 3 Gig ($79) of Ram (as Jim said). It's the video card that will make the difference. Not the i7, which CAN be overclocked (almost a law) rather easily (and can 'take it') with no more than good air cooling. Then get Win's 7 RC and really fly!Chuck BNapamule
August 8, 200916 yr Also, keep in mind that most brand name computer companies turn off overclocking features in BIOS. I've never had a gateway so I'm not sure if they do or dont, but the i7 without an overclock is like driving a sports car with 2 gears. - Red E8500 @ 4.1 | EVGA 275GTX (overclocked) | 2x2GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline @ 1066 | Samsung 24inch LCD @ 1920x1080 |
