August 10, 200916 yr Recently all of my default aircraft somehow got blurry on the outside view at any zoom level. Actual gauges themselves and the 2d panel were not blurred but the interior VC background and the exterior model of the a/c looked terrible. This coincided with downloading XP service pack 3 and also updating CCC and the ATI driversI searched through several forums, utilized the google and followed the advice available, which was:1. make sure that global texture resolution was maxed or one notch below max.2. make sure that display resolution was equal to or worse than the native resolution of the desktop.3. set the display AA settings to anisotropic and AA checked.4. set the graphics card to 'allow application to control AA'.This I did, and I couldn't shake a cruddy-looking airplane. So, after monkeying with the settings, here is what is working for me and leading to 20-40fps in fair weather, pretty much maxed or one below maxed scenery and other settings. In the ATI CCC setup, I unchecked the 'allow application settings'. Instead I chose 4x box, adaptive AA (2nd notch), kept catalyst AI disabled, kept vsync off, and enabled Adaptive Anti-Aliasing on the lowest setting. The most important setting for me was the MIP setting. I had to use the 2nd notch above baseline. After doing this, I changed the AA within FSX to trilinear and unchecked AA. Basically, let the card handle the AA.Firing everything up, I got my clear planes / VC backgrounds back. I'm sure this might be posted elsewhere, but I didn't see it. Hope it helps. Also, if any other ATI users are out there with tips/suggestions, I'd love to hear them. ___________________________ Aaron K FSX sp2 | AMD 9550 | nvidia 9800 | 8GB RAM | Win7

August 17, 200916 yr All I ever did with my 4870 was to move the slider to performance and back to quality, and within FSX I checked the antialiasing option and choose the trilinear option. That's it and didn't have any problems. However I did overclock the card a little. I actually favor my 4870 over my 295.
August 21, 200916 yr Author Ended up upgrading the card (n9800) and it made a huge difference. I was really just asking a budget card to do something it couldnt. Thanks for the suggestion.
