Video crash with Vista 32, GeForce9600 GT, and FSX

Featured Replies

Please scroll down to the bottom of this post for my system specs. I have been having a video issue when running FSX either windowed or full screen in Vista 32 SP1 with a GeForce 9600GT. What happens is that after a while ( any where from 5 to 30 minutes of flying) both monitors go black without warning, and the sound begins to revirberate like a cheap motor bike. It kind of reminds me of the engine sound made by the Cessna in FS3 (OK I know that I am dating myself here). The only cure when this happens is to shut down the system and reboot. When I reboot I get the typical "Windows was not shut down normally" message and the option to restart Windows normally or safe mode, etc. The problem is getting progressivly worse lately. I am wondering if it is a driver conflict with the video and sound, but Device Manager is not showing any conflicts. Any ideas? Could this be a DirectX 10 issue?Windows Vista Home Premium 32 BitService Pack 13GB RamProcessor: Intel® Core2 CPU 4400 @ 2.00GHz (2001 MHz)Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium, 32-bit (Service Pack 1)DirectX version: 10.0 GPU processor: GeForce 9600 GTDriver version: 186.18Stream processors: 64 Core clock: 675 MHz Shader clock: 1700 MHzMemory clock: 900 MHz (1800 MHz data rate) Memory interface: 256-bit Total available graphics memory: 1791 MBDedicated video memory: 512 MBSystem video memory: 0 MBShared system memory: 1279 MBVideo BIOS version: 62.94.11.00.69IRQ: 16Bus: PCI Express x16[Components]nvCplUIR.dll 1.4.900.08 NVIDIA Control PanelnvCpl.cpl 2.5.383.06 NVIDIA Control Panel AppletnvExpBar.dll 1.4.900.08 NVIDIA Control PanelnvCplUI.exe 2.5.383.06 NVIDIA Control PanelnvViTvSR.dll 7.15.11.6369 NVIDIA Video and TV ServernvViTvS.dll 8.15.11.8618 NVIDIA Video and TV ServerNVSTVIEW.EXE 7.15.11.8618 NVIDIA GeForce 3D VisionNVSTTEST.EXE 7.15.11.8618 NVIDIA 3D Vision Test ApplicationNVSTRES.DLL 7.15.11.8618 NVIDIA 3D Vision Module (4161853)nvDispSR.dll 7.15.11.6369 NVIDIA Display ServerNVMCTRAY.DLL 8.15.11.8618 NVIDIA Media Center LibrarynvDispS.dll 8.15.11.8618 NVIDIA Display ServerNVCPL.DLL 8.15.11.8618 NVIDIA Compatible Windows7 Display driver, Version 186.18 PhysX 909.04.28 NVIDIA PhysXNVCUDA.DLL 8.15.11.8618 NVIDIA CUDA 2.2 drivernvGameSR.dll 7.15.11.6369 NVIDIA 3D Settings ServernvGameS.dll 8.15.11.8618 NVIDIA 3D Settings Server

I'd suspect a faulty graphics card there, perhaps crashing due to heat failure. Check the heatsink and make sure it is firmly attached. Also check the fan to make sure it is operational and clear the fanpath of anything that could clog it. To verify heat failure, download the tool OCCT and select the GPU test and run it. If it does not complete the test, your card is faulty.

Wow, that was fast. I just came back to add that I did try the bcdedit/set increaseUserVA 2560 switch but my computer doesn't see to like it too much. It keeps telling me that "The boot configuration data store could not be opened. The maximum number of secrets that may be stored in a single system has been exceeded"I will try the OCCT and let you know how it goes. THANK YOU for your help!
