August 14, 200916 yr Hi guys!Anybody knows how ATC typically vectors planes from Deer Park to ASAL for the Canarsie appproach at KJFK?Cheers!Chris sandelAfter poking around among my STAR charts, and after Googling [jfk "canarsie approach" "deer park"] I concluded that it would be most unusual for JFK Approach to run traffic from Deer Park to Canarsie. The Deer Park VOR is much more likely to be involved in approaches to 31L, I do believe. I got the impression that traffic for the Canarsie approach is likely to be run in from over the ocean to a hairpin right turn not far from the runway threshold of 13L. An alternate approach appears to be northeast along the East River, then a right turn over LGA (above the LGA traffic), and then a straight-in.Finally, I listen to JFK tower a lot. I don't recall ever hearing an aircraft cleared into either 13L or 13R. This simply would not be a good way to deal with volumes of arriving and departing traffic. I'm going to guess that if the wind suggested using 13L they would use 4L instead, accepting the crosswind landing. But I'm not an expert, perhaps I haven't been paying close enough attention, and I may be confusing the Ls with the Rs. By the way, what's ASAL?xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxEDIT: The Carnarsie approaches themselves can be found by Googling 00610parkway_vis13lr.pdf and 00610i13l.pdf
August 14, 200916 yr By the way, what's ASAL?Hello MikeI meant ASALT, the fix just before CRI on the VOR 13L approach plateMy understanding is that this approach was designed specifically to avoid disturbing operations in LGA when there is a southerly wind.Chris.

However, it's a fact that traffic inbound to JFK is often routed over LGA above, I think, 4,000 feet.Anyway, to answer your original question, I would expect traffic from Deer Park destined for 13L to be routed over the ocean and then turned to Breezy Point and on in via the Parkway version of the approach. But again, I certainly could be wrong, and you may know more about this issue than I do.
August 14, 200916 yr Commercial Member Canarsie is part of the VOR approach for 13L/13R from ASALT. While it's certainly not impossible... as far as traffic control goes it would probably not happen because the IAF is to the southwest of the airport. It is also a non-precision approach and I would think they'd vector the jets for precision ILS approaches. Ed Wilson Mindstar AviationMy Playland - I69

The vectors begin after CCC VOR, but before Deer Park (on the ENE or PLYMM arrivals from the N.Atlantic).http://flightaware.com/resources/airport/KJFK/STAR/all/pdfhttp://flightaware.com/live/flight/BAW183/...1936Z/EGLL/KJFKhttp://flightaware.com/live/flight_track_b...time=1240799340Rgrds,Marc

I spent an hour last evening to do the same on flightaware.com, with no succes ;)Many thanks :(
