How do I remove knockouts for a gauge to show

Featured Replies

Hello Guys n Gals,I have scoured the net and forums looking for instructions on how to remove knockouts for a gauge to show through in the virtual cockpit. Could someone be kind enough to give me a run down on how to do this, to be clear I want to add a 2nd vor and a nav 2 radio also a dme. I have everything in place and it shows up fine in the 2D panel but for the life of me I can seem to get the vc bmp to let them show through so what steps do I take to make the holes transparent for the gauges/radios to be visible... Thanks Mike

Try reading this, it's a post I wrote a little while ago to help another user place a gauge on the VC.If that doesn't work this tutorial should help you understand what you need to do and how to do it.If you still need help, just let me know. :(

Thanks DVA, I stumbled across them post's a few days ago I'm all good on placeing and getting them to work its creating a new hole in the vc bmp that has me stumped, if i use the default holes in the vc bmp then it works. This is what im thinking its like I have to dxt it create a alpha then send it to gimp create my holes then send it back or something along this line. It seems like it should be so simple :( Mike

To create the hole in the BMP is do-able but to create a hole in the actual VC is not - if you're just looking to change/edit the bitmap of the VC then thats not a problem, but if you want to change the modeling of the VC that can't be done. :( The way to go about editing the VC bitmap is you need to find the texture file in the texture folder of the specific aircraft, if the aircraft has a VC then the bitmap image will be there. No if it's in DXT format you need to convert it to a format which you can edit with GIMP or w/e photo-editing software you choose to use. Rule of thumb is if you can't view it with "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" then it's uneditable in that format and needs subsequent conversion to the appriopriate format. I know fo two programs that can do this for you "Image Tool" and "DXTBmp".Once you have such programs you open the picture in the program and for DXTBmp you follow these instructions:- File > Save As > Extended Bitmap- Select any "Extended Bitmap 16 or 32 bit"- SaveImage Tool:- Image > Format- Selcet Anything from 8-32bit- SaveThen you can open in your photo-editing software, and do what you will.*Remeber that once you've finished what you need to you need to convert the textures back to the format which they originall were.*Hope I've been of assistance.

Hello Guys n Gals,I have scoured the net and forums looking for instructions on how to remove knockouts for a gauge to show through in the virtual cockpit.
In reality, whether you CAN do that or not depends on just how the modeler designed the virtual cockpit...If, like the default aircraft, he chose to model each gauge as a separate "gauge shaped polygon," then there is nothing you can do at all. Gauges will only display wherever there is a "physical polygon" present in the model on which FS can "project the gauge."Similarly, if the modeler has created 3d gauges with embedded XML script to drive the animations, there is nothing you can do.ONLY in the case where a modeler has created either a single polygon (or several such polygons) on which multiple gauges are "projected" can you do what you are asking about.
