August 27, 200916 yr Hi,This is not a CTD but it certainly is something I have never come across before. It must have something to do with my OC, although I can fly FSX all day with no issues.I am trying out Windows 7 and so far it is working just fine and am getting some great performance. I am oc'd from 3.0 3.8 and FSX is performing without issues. I have flown for 3 hours and more, and mixing up the settings, changing views etc. In other words I have been giving it a workout. Great performance, but FSX will not shut down and free memory. If I ctrl-alt-del to check task manage she locks up. I found though that I can run task manager from a command line and it loads fine, but task manager cant kill it either. I dont know if it is a cpu issue, a memory issue or what. Just need a little guidance on steps I might take to find a solution. Some would say dont worry about it if fsx is working OK. I would agree, but I guess it just bugs me that I cant figure out the problem.I tried running in compatibility mode, with and without admin rights, and all the other obvious solutions, but I cant figure it out.Anyone have any ideas?RegardsBob
August 31, 200916 yr First course of action would be to remove your overclock and set your CPU and memory to stock timings and see if the problem persists or if it goes away.Regards,Bob

Yes, it does go away. I knew it was an OC issue but not sure where. It turns out that my memory controller was overloaded. I could not tighten timings along with the high FSB speeds.Northbridge was overheating. This MB (Striker II) has incredibly pooor cooling for the NB. So I relaxed the timings and retesting. So far so good, but you can certainly tell the difference in perf with lowered timings. Thanks for chiming in,RegardsBob
August 31, 200916 yr Bob,Have you got your CPU OC back up to where it was at? The memory timings will make alittle bit of a difference (not a whole bunch). The CPU clock will have more impact on performance. If you can get your CPU clock back up with the relaxed memory timings......I think it would be a fare trade off for stability. I should know, took my hard headed self a long time to relax the memory and watch FSX errors disappear.Regards,Bob
August 31, 200916 yr so far so good!!! This rig passed everything I threw at it. OCCT, every test that prime95 has and no failures. Put FSX on the rail and nothing but issues. Geez, FSX is one cruel dude!!!I have relaxed from 5-5-5-15 to 5-5-5-18 and so far so good. Drop the volts a little. NB is a little cooler. Really strange as FSX would run great. I flew hard one night for 2 hours. Switching planes, changing scenery complexities, but sometimes all it would take is a click of the joystick button and instance reboot. Bob
