thinking of buying Reality XP Wx500 for the JS4100

Recommended Posts

After seeing this bae8.jpgHow easy is it to get working like the above?Does it come with a fps hit?Does it make the PMDG Buttons around it work(would not think so but...)?How good is it.It seems to add the finishing touch to this amazing VC.

1) Extremely easy, just install the WX Radar and load the JS412) No FPS hit that I'm aware of3) No active PMDG buttons - you will have to use clickspots on the gauge itself (easy)4) The picture that I see on the radar usually corresponds well to the clouds outside. There are some limits in FSX to how closely it can simulate the real thing, but since I've never used a real weather radar, I can't really tell where the limitations are. I like it better than a blank gauge, but I had already bought it before the JS41 so in my case using it was a no-brainer.

Also will it be compatible with the ngx aswell? Or will pmdg's own one be out by then?Alex

The radar is not integrated with the panel in the 747/MD-11. You can use it as a popup 2D gauge.

David, installing the wxr is as easy as installing the JS41. Just a couple of clicks. Didn't notice any difference in FPS. The buttons in VC don't work, when you move your mouse over wxr screen 'invisible' click spots appear. The radar itself works good, you can see it in my screenshot for example, but it's not perfect. Still, all major thunderstorms and CBs are always detected.

I'm thinking of investing in the Wx500 from RXP as well - one additional question: the J41 uses the range arrows on the default (INOP) Wx radar to adjust the EHSI display range. Will adjusting the display range of the RXP radar also be coupled to the EHSI range? After a few tries at the tutorial flight in the J41 I can see how having a decent Wx radar would be a wise investment - lots going on at 16,000 ft ...Mitchell

I don't really understand how the weather radar cannot work with the PMDG 747/MD11 but does work with the PMDG J41.

Mitchell, the VC buttons adjust the EHSI range, WXR range is set separately by using click spots (on the right of wxr screen).

This was explained above. In 747/MD11 it is going to be a separate 2D popup gauge, in J41 it integrates with the panel. So it "works" in both cases - differently.
