For you folks with blank FMS problem

Featured Replies

I am the one that started this thread a few days ago http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=260066While searching what is it in my setup, Win XP and/or FSX, that the FMS of this beautiful plane did not like, I found a solution that seems to work for me. It seems that the FMS reacts like an old virgin to some FSX.cfg settings (to the ladies that are reading this, I beg your pardon...).I had made a backup of my fsx.cfg file and let FSX build a new one, and with this new fsx.cfg the FMS screen did light up when hitting the "ON" key. I then started to modify this new settings one by one, replacing the values with the ones I had in my backed-up fsx.cfg and I came across one that again gave me a blank FMS screen: under (terrain) ( the ( and ) signs are really brackets within the cfg file) the new fsx.cfg file had MESH_RESOLUTION=19 (76m) when my backed-up file had MESH_RESOLUTION=22 (10m). The FMS does not like the 10m mesh resolution. I do not understand why, but that is what I have noticed on my setup . :( The 76m works for me as far as the FMS screen is concerned. I have not yet tried other values for mesh resolution and I won't be able to do it before to-morrw, as I will be back until late tonight. But maybe you guys could try changing these setting. It is advisable to restart your computer after having modified a value, as it seems that sometimes some old values remain in memory after the fsx.cfg file has been amended.Jean-Jacques Struyf aka Jayjay

I'm running 10m mesh resolution myself - no problems at all. What are your system specs again jayjay?

Hello Ryan,On my system, any setting higher than mesh resolution higher than 19m OR autogen higher than normal result in a blank FMS screen. For the FMS screen to come on my mesh resolution needs to be at 19m or lower (38, 76 etc) AND my autogen needs to be at Normal or lower. My system is an Intel duo core 2.4 Ghz with 2GB RAM, GeForce 8600GT with 256MB VRAMAt least, now, with this workaround I can use the JS41 together with it's FMS. By the way, you guys did give us a beautiful plane to fly with. Thanks a lot!Jean-Jacques

That's so strange... I wonder if this is some kind of RAM saturation issue going on then. 2GB is really not enough for FSX - I'd recommend running 4GB and getting Windows 7 64-bit next month when it comes out.
