September 14, 200916 yr Howdy, I need second and third opinions on a problem with add on scenery. I've never experienced problems like this before.I download 2 add on scenery airports, HEAL_Al Alamain, Egypt CYFJ_Mont Tremblant, CanadaI created folders inside of add on scenery as listed, (for example, CYFJ_Mont Tremblant_Canada, with scenery and texture folders) and then normally added them like the hundreds of add on scenery airports I've added previously. The problem is that neither of these scenery will show up in the scenery library. I've scrolled through all of the user added scenery listings and they are not listed. As an experiment, I deleted the 2 folders in question, and predictably got the scenery config error message. I've also tested the scenery locations inside of a flight, and HEAL shows up in game, CYFJ does not show up in game, and of course neither airport show up inside of the my add on settings, scenery library. Nada, zip for either airport.I'm totally confused about what to do. I can't delete the file folders because of the error message, but I can't get either file folder to show up in the scenery library. September 14, 200916 yr Have you added them through the "Scenery Library" dialogue? Normally when I add airports I just copy the .bgl file to the C:/Microsoft Games/Flight Sim X/Addon Scenery/Scenery folder.Did you get the aiports from here? If so I will check it out for you.Is this it?
September 14, 200916 yr Author thanks Scott.Normally, I create a folder for every add on airport, and then within that folder a scenery folder, and if needed a texture folder. I then add that airport folder using the scenery library dialogue. I've added literally hundreds of airport in this manner, without error. This is a first.I seldom dump files randomly into the add on scenery/scenery folder. I always make specific folders.I download the files from flight sim dot com. To reiterate, I created 2 folders (HEAL and CYFJ) and placed them within the add on scenery folder, then using the scenery library dialogue, I added those 2 particular folders. Neither HEAL nor CYFJ show up in the list, as they would or should, normally. Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-14700F 32.0 GB memory Windows 11 Home Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060

Inside the Canada Folder is two folders, Scenery and Texture. You placed the .bgl files in the Scenery folder, correct? If so, make sure Scenery is spelled correctly? Other than that I don't know what the problem would be unless FSX has a ceiling on the number of addon scenery files you can have.
September 14, 200916 yr Author Yep, that's what I did.I could remove the airport folders, except that they don't show up in the list, if they don't list then they can't be removed.I could manually delete the airport folders, but then I would get error messages accessing the scenery library. Thanks again. p.s. sorry, meant to say I was also wondering about a ceiling amount of add on scenery, as well. September 14, 200916 yr Author Apparently, there is a ceiling amount of add ons you can add to the game. I deleted a few add on airports and the "missing" airports were no longer missing, and in the list. Looks like a rethink is needed about adding folder specific add ons in the scenery library. September 14, 200916 yr Apparently, there is a ceiling amount of add ons you can add to the game. That is actually a myth that has been carried over from a previous version of FS (there was a limit for FS2002 or FS2000, can't remember which one).As mentioned, one thing you should look at is the scenery.cfg file located C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX. This is the source file for what you see in the scenery library. For several years I have manually added scenery to this file rather than using the scenery library. It gives you more control over the entries but be careful, you can muck things up if you don't do it correctly. You should back up the file before you play with it.Even when I install by auto installer, I always check the scenery.cfg to make sure the order of the sceneries is still correct. All of the area numbers must be sequential and there can't be any missing area numbers. If things get out of order, scenery may not show up.Here is the last entery for mine with explanations in ().[Area.139] (scenery area, to make things easy, this should match the layer)Title=PW Sceneries Volume 3 - Saint Lucia and Martinique (name of the scenery, can be anything you want)Local=Addon Scenery\PWS Vol 3\ (the main location for the scenery, the folder that contains the scenery and texture folder)Layer=139 (this is the priority that is set in the library, since this is the last scenery I added, it is priority 1 in the scenery library)Active=TRUE (this is the check box in the scenery library)Required=FALSEMake sure everything is still in order and the folder names in the "local" section are exact. An error here will cause the problem that you are having. September 14, 200916 yr Author Thanks Jeff.I wonder.....Do all of your entries show up "in-game". I have zero custom scenery show up in the cfg. Also, here is my first entry in the scenery.cfg, notice the FS9. [General]Title=FS9 World SceneryDescription=FS9 Scenery DataClean_on_Exit=TRUEThat first entry is fine.Make sure you are looking at the scenery.cgf in the directory I mentioned above. FSX places the same file in a few different locations. Only the one in the above directory will contain the add on scenery. I don't know why it is like this but it is. For FS2004, there was one scenery.cfg in the main FS folder which was easier to deal with.It may be possible that things could be in different locations on different systems but someone else would have to confirm that. September 14, 200916 yr Author Howdy Jeff,You were right, I was not looking in the correct place for the scenery cfg. I have no idea how I managed to find the correct place, just stumbled at the correct time I guess.I'm not so sure I wish to manipulate the scenery cfg, I'll have to rethink what I'm trying to accomplish here. I did however save your notes for future reference. It's strange that there would be a limit on what can be shown "inside the game scenery menu", but maybe I'm lacking the knowledge or complete understanding. Many thanks again.Dave Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-14700F 32.0 GB memory Windows 11 Home Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060

If interested, please paste the last scenery entry from the scenery.cfg and the exact folder names (located in the add on scenery folder) of the scenery that you are trying to add. I should be able to give you the information.
