USB to DVI adapter

Featured Replies

G'day all,Based on an idea I picked up from this forum (can't find the thread now), I decided to go out and buy a USB to DVI adapter. The idea was that I could use it to hook up a second monitor and set it up to show non-motion critical items such as the GPS and other instruments instead of having them clutter my main screen.Yes, I have a dual-DVI port video card but the use of that second port resulted in a significant FPS drop, and so I stuck with my single-monitor setup. The problem I'm having with this adapter is that, on startup, FSX kicks up an error saying that the display adapter is not supported as it doesn't have the right level of shader support, etc. and will now shut down.I downloaded the latest drivers and it works perfect outside of FSX. The USB display adapter is used for my second monitor, so I don't see why this should be a problem. So, if there's anybody here who has something like this, please could you tell me how you got it working.Cheers,

USB display adapters do not utilize a GPU, and are thus incapable of accelerating a 3d application like flight sim.You need to buy another video card.

What you say here is true, but I hadn't even tried to set up the USB adapter for FSX yet. It seems that because FSX detected a substandard adapter on startup, it 'decided' that it won't load at all. My main card is a GTX 275.Anyways, I guess I'll just have to stick to a single monitor setup and use the USB adapter on something else. Cheers,

You mentioned that two monitors on the same card decreased fps.Is this a general rule or does it depend on what is going on with the second monitor?I have two CRTs hooked up to the same card. I use two monitors a lot when not using FS. When using FS, I only use the second monitor occasionally to undock a GPS or something. Most of the time I have nothing on it - it is just a black screen. If I'm not using that second monitor, am I hurting performance by having to hooked up?

Hmm. I don't know about FS9 but I imagine it would. FSX probably takes a bigger hit.Try disabling the 2nd monitor with your display properties then FS won't detect or load it. See if that improves your fps. I know for a fact that it did smack the fps down on my rig and I hadn't even set up what I wanted on the 2nd monitor yet (it was blank).
