ATI, Catalyst, experts here?

Featured Replies

I am absolutely dumbfounded.I have the AGP Radeon X800 PRO/GTO 256 MB card (yes, it is an old system).I have the latest (I think) Catalyst Control Center version 9.3 which correctlyidentifies the card I have.SmartGart set my AGP speed at 8x. Under graphics software I can see that my Direct3D version is 6.14.10.0647.So everything looks OK here - at least for me.But when I try to run FSX I am told that my video card is not sufficient, that I need at least Radeon 8500and FSX will close. My God - my card is much much newer and better than 8500!!When I go to run dxdiag I am told that Direct3D acceleration is NOT available, that AGP texture acceleration is also NOT available, and neither is accelerated DirectDraw.I have had DirectX 9.0c for a long time. What's going on? I know this card is capable of full acceleration and I actually used to runFS9/FSX on it before.I was looking for some self-help on ATI site - nothing.Could someone shed light on this most peculiar situation?I am running WinXP (32 bits) - home with all service packs installed.Thks.

The driver you are using likely doesn't include Direct3D acceleration. You should search for "ATI AGP hotfix" to get the correct driver.

Not sure if you got this resolved yet, but I had the same issue recently. What i did to cause it was after uninstalling my old nvidia card, I decided to edit FSX.CFg, by removing he nvidia entry. After doing so and having my new ATI HD 3850 installed with latest drivers catalyst 9.9 hotfix, I got the error "Your card is not sufficient, you should have at least Radeon 8500." (or something like that.)To resolve the problem, I backed up my FSX.cfg and let FSX rebuild a new one upon loading FSX again. Note: You may want to copy any third part add-ons from the cfg to copy to the new one....if you have tons like me..Hope this helpsTroy
