September 29, 200916 yr Hi.Dont know if this topic has been shown before but here goes.2.45 Q6600 Quad core, 4GB RAM (2x2GB sticks) ,9600 GT Graphics,XP 32 bit.Last week I noticed that when the PC is swtiched on only 2816 of RAM is showing on the start up screen when previously it showed 4GB RAM. PC shows only 2.75 RAM in properties ,when before I think it showed something like 3.5RAM. PC Wizard show PC has 4GB RAM installed. FRESH RAM programme shows 2816 RAM. Ran a memory test and this also showed 2816 RAM but no problems with the 2816 of RAM.Where has the full 4gb RAM gone?I took out the 2 sticks of RAM and put one back in its slot and the PC showed 2gb RAM,I took out that stick and installed the other stick and this showed up as 2 gb RAM. I swopped both around individually into different slots and again they showed up as 2gb RAM. I installed both back into their slots and still it shows only as 2816.There is an obvious conflict here somewere. There appears to be no memory leak and the BIOS has not been altered in any way, indeed the BIOS shows no mention of RAM at all except that small amount shown at the top of one page (something like 640). Background programmes are at a minimum. Each individual stick registers OK but the full amount of RAM does not register when both sticks are installed. Is there a way around this problem or is it a motherboard malfunction?John.
