October 1, 200916 yr I flew my daughter Sophie over to Newport Oregon mid September in a rented Piper Arrow III. The marine layer was supposed to burn off by 11 am but it hadn't. Fortunately after circling over Siletz Bay and then over Newport we prepared to head back and found the break in the clouds I had eyed earlier had gotten much larger and we descended under the cloud layer and scud run down to Newport. The return flight to Aurora was clear and with the tailwind we managed a 149 knot ground speed at 5,500 feet which is quite good for this aircraft. See the video .
