October 4, 200916 yr Greetings to all the Avsim members. My name is Tim and i've been around awhile, I'm not new to scenery design and have used the Avsim library extensively. I have designed over 90 sceneries/missions for FS9 with a large portion of those at hovercontrol and globalaviationnetwork, I have now moved on to include sceneries and my first 3 missions for FSX and i'm lovin it. I love sharing my work and more, i enjoy knowing that others enjoy them as well. I am not a pro by far but do a fairly good job as expressed by some users. I am an EMT by trade so i have lots of ideas for missions and sceneries and that helps in designing scenery to go with any type of mission. I have recently downloaded and purchased Instant Scenery, airport Fascilitator X and instant mission maker from Flight1. i used to use AFCAD and EZ Scenery. I'm getting much better at designing and now use airport fascilitator's full potential making small ponds and walkways and so on to enhance the sceneries and utilizing instant Sceneries advanced options that EZ Scenery did not have. one thing has been missing from the new FSX sceneries i have done and thats the additon of placing FSX effects into the sceneries. I have done an extensive search for an object library of FSX effects that are in the format that can be used by Instant Scenery and have come up empty. i'm sure that using the FSX SDK would allow me to acomplish this but i'm spoiled by using EZ Scenery and now Instant Scenery for both FS9 and FSX. I'm posting this question here where there is a huge amount of talent with all the experienced scenery designers in hopes that someone may help with locating a library of FSX effects that can be used with Instant Scenery. anyway, i'm very happy to be a member now of the Avsim forums and hope to, in the future, help someone in need with some of my knowledge from designing scenery for FS9 and now FSX. I will be updating the text files in my sceneries to include the avsim file library as a download location so i can further share the work i have done with many other users to enjoy. again, it's a pleasure becoming a new member to this community and i look forward to sharing what i can. Cheers!
October 4, 200916 yr Hi Tim, glad to have you here. The Effects Tool in the SDK is pretty easy to use once you start to understand the parameters, and you can see the changes to the effect immediately. You undoubtedly know that already, and also that it does not place the effect. It is the only tool I know that deals with effects.Best regards.Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
October 5, 200916 yr Hey Luis, I came to that conclusion after such a long search for a library of FSX effects. Effects are such a big part of all my FS9 sceneries and i was looking forward to including them in FSX works but found out very quickly that my sceneries were not going to include effects of any kind. they work rather well in the missions i have done so far for FSX. I have wondered if a library of effects could be compiled for use with Instant Scenery but i'm not the one who could get that done. my knowledge is not so advanced as to take on such a project. I wish too that ron_ez_effects for FS9 would work in FSX but unfortunately not. Oh well, i still have great tools, knowledge and a wonderful imagination and a great desire to keep designing stuff for FS9 and FSX without effects in FSX and i will no doubt enjoy doing it for the pure pleasure of adding to the huge community of flight simulation. Thanks for your input and have a great day. ga864sa/hc864sa/savageagle
October 5, 200916 yr Hello:You may also wish to check out this thread:http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=23241Additionally, you may wish to check out this example set of effects in a library for use with XML object placers:http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...&DLID=80197There is just a few extra lines of XML code required beyond what is presently written out by most object placing utilities (such as Instant Scenery ) in order to achieve successful effect placement; in time most of these utilities will likely add effects as well as objects from libraries. But an extra level of control is achieved by using an effects "control file" that "calls" the effect main effect file itself in manually edited XML files.Generally, when effects are used with MDL files via the "attachpoint tool", they are somewhat more limited, so pros and cons vary with the application.See the Special Effects SDK instructions and search both this forum system and that at FSDeveloper.com for more info.Hope this helps ! :( GaryGB
October 5, 200916 yr Thank you GaryGB, Everything is helpful, and educating at some point. I will at my next "free break" jump into those links and i'm sure i'll come out of it with more knowledge than what i have now. I think i need to read up more on XML stuff and really get a better understanding of just how it all works, in any application. Thanks again.
