October 8, 200916 yr Hello,I was doing a clean boot before a flight by turning off all non MS services.I forgot to check exclude MS service resulting in everything being turned off including my RAID service. Any idea how to get the system back on? I think I have done this before and I know there is a way. I just can't remember what I did last time. October 8, 200916 yr Have you tried using the last known good configuration boot option which is selectable from the boot menu (hit f8 before the first Windows loading screen)?
October 8, 200916 yr Author I tried to go in to RAID configuation to see what the options were. I made no changes, F4 to exit. Next reboot, I did not get the error messge "array not found" but it still wouldn't boot. I can't get in to safe mode because the point where safe mode is available is after the point which it detects the RAID array.I really hope I didn't hose everything up.Any help would be very much appreciated.F8 is not doing anything. Tried it to get in to safe mode. October 9, 200916 yr You never said you got an "array not found" message. That's pre-Windows. Degraded array = bad news. I think you may be about to learn why RAID 0 is a horrible idea for an O.S.Go back into the RAID BIOS. What is the array status?
October 9, 200916 yr Author Thanks for the help.I think the Array not found was the result of killing the RAID service before I re-started the system. If I had a way to restore all of the services, I believe I could get it to boot. How I can restore the services with out getting in to safe mode, I don't know. I fell like I have done this before and was able to overcome the issue.BTW, here is the link to the process I use before I fly. Been doing it this way for 5+ years. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=331796I hear you on mixing RAID and the OS. The next system (looks like it will be sooner than later) will not have that set up. October 9, 200916 yr Have you checked your array status? If the controller sees the array as healthy then this is a Windows issue and can likely be resolved, perhaps by restoring a backup copy of your registry or performing a Windows XP repair install from CD.
October 9, 200916 yr Author Thanks for the help. It is now indicating a healthy array with the correct drive size during boot. It is now hanging with an error "invalid partition".Yes, I know it is a no no, I have a partition on that drive as well. I'm not too distraught about this. I was going to canabolize this rig in a couple weeks to build a new I7 system. Most of my data is on an external drive and a NAS Drive. Tomorrow I'm going to take it in to the shop that was going to build the new rig. It will be a nice test drive for them. If they can't fix it, I'll just buy the hardware for the new rig a little sooner than I planned. I really wanted to wait for Windows 7.I'm wondering, if I have them build the new system with Vista 64 can I get the upgrade to Windows 7 like I have with my new laptop? October 9, 200916 yr Their fix will hopefully be a repair install of the O.S. or a registry recovery. If they tell you it needs to be reloaded, ask them what they tried before reaching that conclusion. If they don't mention either of the aforementioned fixes, that's not a shop I would want working on a machine for anyone I know.
