October 13, 200916 yr From time to time i find airports in fsx where some runway ILS info dont work, does anybody know what could cause this. Both ILS and course are properly tuned in , but the LOc that shows is not for the runway, and glide slope does not come up at all.Any ideas
October 13, 200916 yr I too have had problems with LAX 24L on ILS approach, where it picks up another localizer and or G/S and decends about 20nm from the airport. To fix it,I have waited to arm the ILS and APPR modes until about ten miles from the airport. Also, don't depend on ATC to vector you correctly especially coming in from the East. However, every time I use 25L I am able to land without incident.
October 13, 200916 yr I've found that when this happens it's usually caused by my having added a third-party afcad for a neighboring airport. Pull all your third-party afcads and see if it now works. If so, then it's just a matter of determining which one is the culprit.Robert Robert Chartoff
October 13, 200916 yr Thanks for the replies.I have no third party airports.I do suspect it might be something to do with the plane picking up the wroung signal, so as has been mentioned probably best to wait till i am too close to the airport before engaging the loc. When ILS fails, i just zoom in on the default FSx GPS runway vector line and follow that to the runway, but very unreliable method to line up, especially in low visibility.I like the realism of using the runway served up by ATC, but this issue makes approach quite accrobatic at times.Good to know this is probably not a problem with my install, in which case i might need to perfect the use of GPS as backup when ILS fails.I get this problem at other airports too sometimes, its it seems to be more common in areas where airports are close together. Any tips for landing heavies without the help of ILS LOc and Glide scope, short of using spot view.??????????
October 13, 200916 yr Any tips for landing heavies without the help of ILS LOc and Glide scope, short of using spot view.??????????Sure. Firstly, the ILS for 24L and 6R share freq 111.7 and default ILS have "backcourse" enabled, which can cause you to pick up the backcourse signal from 6R when you want 24L. You should be able to turn on the audio for NAV1 and get IHQB. But, you can also use your GPS where you will find an approach RNAV 24L transition CRISY. Switch your HSI to GPS guidance, activate the procedure in the GPS and you get lateral guidance. You have to handle vertical yourself, though the VSR window in the GPS usually gives you some idea (use a VSR of -5 to mean 300 fpm descent).scott s.

Sorry but i dont really understand what you mean.RNAV is fine if using default FSX plane, i always use ILS instead, dont do RNAV.I think you mean to tune into intersection or VOR that is lined up with the required runway, such as IHQB, which would be a very good idea.As for glide slope, i always descend to around 2000 feet above ground early , whenever i have this issue.About the Backcourse being enable on defualt ILS, do you mean all defualt FSX airports have backcourse enabled. With KLAX 24 i had wround LOc, and no glide slope. However other times i get exactly what you describe loc is OK, but glide slope is reversed, which means i am getting signal for opposite runway.I would sure like further explanation on this issue. like can i disable the backcourse on ils causing me to pickup up opposite runway. Thanks for the solid info.Sure.
