Cold & Dark

Did fresh install of OS and FSX however have mystery of cold & dark powering up after a while on its own. I have no idea why this is happening. While sitting at gate, after FSX startup. A/C panel powers up for a while and then powers back off after a minute or so. Anyone has idea why this happens?WilbertASUS P5Q SE PLUS/Thermaltake W0106 700W PSUIntel E8500 - 3.10 OC TO 3.80Vista Ultimate 64 SP2/CORSAIR XMS2 DHX 4GB (2 x 2GB)2x150GB SATA WD Raptor- No Raid/2x320GB SATA WD SE16- No Raid2x IDE Light-On DVDRW 165H65/EVGA GTX285 2m3x SILENX 120X25MM FANS + 2x 10in XCLIO Wind Tunnel Case FansDanger Den Water Cooling/Enermax temp/fan controllerFSX ACC@ 1600/1200 |UTX/ASX/FEX/MTX/ASA/REX/UT2/FsPsgrsX/DBS W & F/PMDG 747/3D shockwave/USA & World Extreme Landscape

Once you load the situation and the aircraft is completely "cold and dark" I would save the situation. Then when you restart the situation, it should stay "cold and dark". It's hard to say what is causing your problem but aircraft that are ported over from earlier versions of FSX usually use the FSUIPC.dll. Some FSX made aircraft use FSUIPC.dll too. FSX default aircraft use simconnect.dll. So make sure it's installed and properly showing up in the dll.xml file. Best regards,Jim Young

Thanks for responding. This sounds interesting. I am familiar with saving situations but I am not quite sure what you meant "So make sure it's installed and properly showing up in the dll.xml file.".Exactly what should show up in this file - gauge or what?Wilbert

After thinking about this, I believe you were referring to the FSUIPC showing in the "DLL.xml" file. Yes, it is properly there. After doing further analysis, this problem is occurring with Aerosim First Step B772 A/C, which is suppose to be FSX design. So far, it is not immediately present with the default 747. I will check further. If you have more suggestion, I would appreciate.Wilbert

Just wanted to confirm that I was referrring to FSUIPC in the dll.xml. Sorry I don't have any additional suggestions. I don't think the Aerosim 772 is completely FSX design as I don't think an original 777 for FSX was developed yet by any FS developer. In any case, where did you get the cold and dark situation? Did it come installed with the 772 or did you make it by setting up the situation and then saving it? Again, if the situation was made for FS9 or earlier versions of FS, this could be the issue.Best regards,Jim Young

ive actually been experiencing this same problem in fs9 lately. My default is cold and dark, yet sometimes I load up the default cessna (as I always do before i load addon planes), the avionics turns on by itself. If that happens, no matter what I do (turn the battery on then off, play with avionics switch, switch aircraft) nothing turns it back off, so I have to restart the sim as small things like that get to me. Have not found a solution yet. Yes I've tried saving a different default cold and dark set up. So i guess that rules out fs9 products in fsx.

I also forgot to mention that when this situation appears, battery and avionics switches are ineffective. This is so annoying, as so many other problems with FSX. When FSX is working, it is the best of all previous simulators when hardware and software are married properly. It is also difficult to believe that only less than a half dozen people have or have had this problem. I have spent much money on equipment and addons for FSX and now it appears that it has been money wasted. I also suspect there may be a simple remedy for this problem.Still waiting for some bright soul to share any more suggestions. In my case, I don't believe it is hardware related unless it is the addition of more memory.Wilbert ASUS P5Q SE PLUS/Thermaltake W0106 700W PSUIntel E8500 - 3.10 OC TO 3.80Vista Ultimate 64 SP2/CORSAIR XMS2 DHX 4GB (2 x 2GB)2x150GB SATA WD Raptor- No Raid/2x320GB SATA WD SE16- No Raid2x IDE Light-On DVDRW 165H65/EVGA GTX285 2m3x SILENX 120X25MM FANS + 2x 10in XCLIO Wind Tunnel Case FansDanger Den Water Cooling/Enermax temp/fan controllerFSX ACC@ 1600/1200 |UTX/ASX/FEX/MTX/ASA/REX/UT2/FsPsgrsX/DBS W & F/PMDG 747/3D shockwave/USA & World Extreme Landscape

Okay, apologize in advance for responding again. I did some more research and wanted to pass on some of my findings. First of all, FSX does not come with a default cold and dark situation. I just installed FSX Deluxe, then Acceleration as I upgraded to Windows 7 and there's no default situation called cold and dark. According to the following link, you have to set that up yourself -- http://www.forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?showtopic=11907. Now this is where I think the problem you and maybe others are experiencing as it starts at where you made the cold and dark situation and what aircraft. According to the link I provided, once you make a cold and dark situation and save it, you can use it with any other aircraft. So if you saved the situation using the Cessna 172 and subsequently try the cold and dark situation with a Boeing 747, the 747 has more switches and instruments and perhaps that is causing the issues you are suffering. The realism settings may make a difference too as well as any commercial aircraft and some commercial developers use their own config for setting up cold and dark situations or what should be turned on or off at the beginning of the flight. It might be the reason why the ACES Team did not make a default cold and dark situation for FSX. I did a Google search using "fsx cold and dark cockpit" and came up with several links to various flight sim sights discussing the cold and dark situations. Best regards,Jim

I'm not sure that the link you referenced was the correct one you wanted. It referenced how to set up a "cold & dark" situation. Setting up a cold and dark situation is not the problem. There are many situations files available and many also at this site. The problem is that there is something that is making a cold and dark situation power up the battery and avionics on its on. When this happens, it stays on for a while and then goes off for a while. This process continually repeats. Now, this brings me to one other question - Why not everyone affected? Eliminating the human element, what key factor is different?WilbertASUS P5Q SE PLUS/Thermaltake W0106 700W PSUIntel E8500 - 3.10 OC TO 3.80Vista Ultimate 64 SP2/CORSAIR XMS2 DHX 4GB (2 x 2GB)2x150GB SATA WD Raptor- No Raid/2x320GB SATA WD SE16- No Raid2x IDE Light-On DVDRW 165H65/EVGA GTX285 2m3x SILENX 120X25MM FANS + 2x 10in XCLIO Wind Tunnel Case FansDanger Den Water Cooling/Enermax temp/fan controllerFSX ACC@ 1600/1200 |UTX/ASX/FEX/MTX/ASA/REX/UT2/FsPsgrsX/DBS W & F/PMDG 747/3D shockwave/USA & World Extreme Landscape
