October 24, 200916 yr After 6 month leave from FS I am back. First thing I noticed was a new toy from PMDG and for such a reasonable price, thought I might as well get some new clouds(REX) to go with it. Now my video card is not to happy about new clouds. So much like a woman that goes out for 1 pair of shoes and comes back with 2 pairs and a new dress I thought to myself "why make the Fedex guy work so hard to bring one item in a box." Now am at newegg looking at new vid cards and wandered over to CPUs and started looking at the C2Q9000s. I was kind of suprised at the prices being this high still with the i7s out now. If I was going "all in" I would not even ask this question. Is a Q9000 worth the high price to replace a Q6600? I am running at 3.2ghz right now, and am pleased with how FSX runs, but anything that turns the sliders farther to the right is good, but dont want to get a new MoBo and ram too. People getting 4ghz with 9000s on air? Sound off!Willy
October 24, 200916 yr No there are about the same for FSX as the Q6600. Unless you get one that will overclock past 4ghz most go around 3.8ghz tops.My 2cents save your money for a better upgrade past the core 2 series.
October 24, 200916 yr I hear ya. However, When I bought my Q9550 in January, it cost $300. Now they are $169. Same with my GPU. Yet, worth the money to me. I had an E6750 with an 8800gt before. My simple OC went from 3.2 to 3.4. But two more cores, faster memory and a better GPU did not make a huge difference, but enough for me to be able to run most things at max. I'm more than happy. But if an i7 were to magicaly drop in my lap for free...Bob Bob i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.
October 24, 200916 yr Author Holding off sounds good. Too much to spend for a small gain. Sounds like the only ones to OC well depends on what stepping version you get, and thats a lottery. You get what they ship.Willy
