FS Global Question

Featured Replies

Hi all;I recently purchased an FS Geneses membership and now own all of their products and while they have improved FS9 a thousand times the one thing I don't like and did not expect, there are so many airports that sit on plateau's now. Now to my question. Does FS Global have the same problem? I look forward to the feedback...........John

Airport plateaus are a problem with add-on terrain mesh usually for a few reasons:FS9 does not support sloped runwaysAirports designed for the relative coarse terrain of FS9 may not be at a correct altitude for a finer mesh. They are usually set by FS at the highest point. Areas around a raised airport occur because FS raises the airport and immediate surround to the highest level (using a flatten method) that MS picked, that is the highest runway threshold elevation on available airport data. This information was derived from documentation provided with FS Global 2008 installed on my system.I have not noticed any really bad airport plateaus in the areas I visit but some do exist.I installed originally for FS9 the payware mesh RealScene 2004 which covers the USA. I still see some airports on a plateau but it is less usually at one end of the runways because of the finer resolution. Some add-on airport scenery is designed for specific terrain mesh installations and often they are designed to extend the land data in a non-flat surround for better blending. They often come with their own mesh.bgl included. You might be interested in this topic in the FSGenesis support forum:http://www.fsgenesis.net/forum/index.php/topic,437.0.htmlIt is about water areas but also gets into raised airport areas. FSGlobal also provides a similar tool but with cautions.Since I never had FS Genesis installed I can't say whether FS Global will cure the problem. In addition I think I saw a utility in the download library that could globally change the altitude of a selected airport. There is also a tool in the freeware Airport Design Editor ADE9X version 1.45.06 available at:http://www.scruffyduck.org.uk/filemanager/...0610324760eede6It will download the utility and manuals. In the main manual see section 7.6.1. I have not used this tool.
