June 30, 200322 yr I turned on my TV set and tuned to the Discovery Wings channel, and there was a show starting called Learning To Fly. I started watching it, and in between the real teaching scenes in the airplane, were the same scenes from the Microsoft Flight Simulator. This episode was teaching steep turns, and the whole series looks really interesting, especially for us FS fans. If you have satellite or cable you will really enjoy this program. And with wide screen and surround sound it is wonderful. June 30, 200322 yr And if MS could simulate the "feel" that the student felt in those steep turns, then so much the better!! :) It is a good worthwhile series & use's the MS 172 for much of the demonstrations including the VC's. P.S. Notice the nice looking RV airplane in the background of the hangar.L.Adamson
June 30, 200322 yr I have been screaming at my cable company to get it for about 5 years now. We JUST got it recently. Good program.Don
June 30, 200322 yr Well I have it on free preview till the end of July. There is a lot of interesting shows on this channel. I've been following the guys building a home-made helicopter.Sean Harvey(CYEG)
June 30, 200322 yr The big problem with Wings channel is repetition. They air the same shows over and over. Almost every show is about old military aviation or just plain (pun) old aviation. Once you've watched that channel for a month, you've likely seen every show they have.If they would show more modern content and focus more on GA, it would be more worth it. It seems that Sunday nights are the only worthwhile times to watch.
June 30, 200322 yr Yeah and they never repeat the good stuff....its always Choppers and XPLANES! :(Come on...I wanna see Airport and Learning to Fly more then twice on Sundays....during the week please. :)[div align=center][link:www.jetdoc.com/STO/]Visit The Bookstore & Gift Shoppe][/b
July 1, 200322 yr I agree with you completely. Learning to Fly is a great series even if it's repeated sometimes. I inquired to whether The Discovery Wings Channel had any plans on releasing it on video tape or DVD and was told that there were no plans to do either. Maybe if enough of us inquire it might make a difference in their plans.
July 1, 200322 yr Yes, that's an excellent show =)Speaking of that last episode, did you happen to notice anything "different" about Kyle's attitude? She seemed a bit... erm... tipsy? ;-)Too bad though, from what I've heard she never really made it to her PPL... the show was filmed almost a year ago and if you bring up the Landings pilot database, the only Kyle Guyette in the DB still appears as a Student Pilot =(Maybe she failed her checkride Matt
