November 1, 200916 yr I see FS Globel 2010 is out. Has anyone compared its resolution with the FS Genesis Mesh in FS 2004 ? My FS Genesis looks pretty good.jerrycwo4
November 1, 200916 yr I've been trying to find proper documentation on it but can't seem to yet. Maybe it's just me, however, they do have a tribute to the guy who designed their new box cover and it even includes an enlarged, specially enhanced screenshot. I guess that's the easy to find, main feature of the new version...Mark
November 1, 200916 yr Go to FSGlobal 2008.com. Be sure scripts are enabled. Read the intro and other topics by highlighting them. Then go to FSGlobal2010.com which is not complete yet. Read that intro to show what improvements are made to 2008.The big claim is that they cover more area and in a few cases higher resolution than other terrain meshes. As I recall at the time I started with 2005 it was the only global set of terrain mesh sold in a complete volume without purchasing sets for each area. I have 2K8 and I'm happy with it. For FS9 it is well worth it. For FSX some of the detail is already there but it adds in other areas. If you have the coverage you want in FS Genesis and are satisfied in those areas I'd hold off. At 69.99 EUR (direct) or:70 Euro = 103.044 US Dollar today for new users it is quite expensive but that includes both FS9 and FSX.FS Genesis according to their site only provides a collection for each FS at about $50 and $60 plus extra packs.FSGlobal 2008 was for both FSs was on six DVDs. 2010 is on twelve DVDs so something must have been added. For the older FSGlobal 2008 perhaps this document will give a good description: http://fsim.net/fsglobalx//englisch2.htmNote that landclasses are not provided but they synthesize coloration. FSGenesis offers free landclass downloads but it doesn't look worldwide.Note that FSGlobal enhances above its average mesh Hawaii and other areas including US Southwest. It appears to me those extra details may only be available as extras in FS Genesis. It's all very complicated and I'm not saying all of my conclusions are correct regarding the two products. In other words I'm claiming I'm not responsible for errors in this reply. Consider these comments as a guide to do your own research. So here's the links to the three product sites:fsglobal2008.com - more completefsglobal2010.com - just introduction overview is uphttp://www.fsgenesis.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc - their new site.http://www.fsgenesis.net/forum/index.php?P...3&board=6.0 - FS Genesis FS9 forum
November 1, 200916 yr Hey Ron, have you seen a simple color coded world map of the coverage areas by LOD for FSGlobal 2010 for FS9? If not, have you seen one for FSGlobal 2008 for FS9? I mean, wouldn't that make product comparisons really easy and take all of this guess work out of the equation?Mark
November 2, 200916 yr No. I thought there was some kind of comparison a couple of years ago in table format on the FS Genesis site but if so it's been removed, probably because of changing products on both sides. There is a map of individual FS Genesis individual DVDs in the some of the links I provided with hi-rez in this:http://www.fsgenesis.com/Merchant2/merchan...egory_Code=DVD9For FSGlobal you'll have to look at the descriptions but they appear to have greater global coverage but not necessarily all in the higher LODs.The FSGlobal 2008 docs refer more to FSX in resolution topics. FSX needs less improvement than FS9.Bearing in mind that they are mostly talking about FSX read the intro here:http://www.fsglobal2010.com/indexA.htmbut they do supply additional coverage in FS9 as well. I'd contact them to ask what max LODs are supplied for FS9 areas. Hey Ron, have you seen a simple color coded world map of the coverage areas by LOD for FSGlobal 2010 for FS9? November 2, 200916 yr Thanks Ron. You know, I beginning to believe that there will not be an easy and simple LOD map available for FSGlobal for FS9. Maybe that's because it would make it too easy to do a product feature by feature comparison? Think about how ironic that is...the most fundamental concept of a world wide mesh is a map of the world at LOD levels...which you're not being provided.Mark
