Is it possible to fly automatically towards a VOR ( using the PMDG-747-400 ) byusing the autopilot ? And if yes,how to set up ?Or does the VOR needle only indicate the direction to take ? Thanks for the infoHubert Werni

It should function just like the autopilot in the C172...Tune the VOR into Nav1.. Dial in the desired radial (couse on the HSI) (or center the CDI if you just want to fly to the VOR from your present location).. Activate the autopilot.. make sure the Nav/GPS switch is set to 'Nav'.. turn the autopilot ON , and use the 'Nav' function.

Hubert,Why don't you go to the PMDG/747 forum and do a simple search on this topic, this has been discussed there number of times.If I recall 747-400's autopilot can NOT track a VOR signal (so yes, 747's AP is different here from 737's). But there is an equivalent way (and perhaps even better) to accomplish what you want using the LNAV functionality. Again, you will find relevant details in their forum.
