November 26, 200916 yr Going to built a new PC to replace my trusty but old X2 4800+ machine. Currently just use FS9, but will probably go to FSX in the near future.I budgeted myself about $2,500 CAD for the entire machine. I want this new PC to be pretty well near the top for at least the next 2 years if possible thus overclocking will be done. I also plan to split the main drive and do a dual boot with Windows 7 64-bit and XP 64-bit.The Raptor drive will be used for just FS9 and/or FSX only.Any opinions on my proposed build is greatly appreciated:1 x Antec - Nine Hundred II Gamer Case ($149.99) 1 x Intel - Core i7 Processor 920 2.66GHz w/ 8MB Cache ($329.99) 1 x Cooler Master - V8 CPU Cooler ($71.99) 1 x ARCTIC SILVER - Ceramique Premium High-Density Thermal Compund, 2.5g ($8.49) 1 x Asus - P6T Deluxe V2 X58 w/ TripleDDR3 2000, 7.1 Audio, Dual Gigabit Lan, 1394, PCI-E, CrossFireX/ SLI ($319.99) 1 x Mushkin - HP3-12800 High Performance DDR3 SDRAM, 6GB Triple Channel Kit (3 x 2GB) ($199.99) 1 x SEAGATE - 1.5TB Barracuda 7200.11 SATA II w/ 32MB Cache ($124.99) 1 x Western Digital - VelociRaptor 300GB 10,000rpm SATA II w/ 16MB Cache ($269.99) 1 x LG - Super Multi Security DVD Writer 22x DVD+/-RW Dual-Layer, Black (OEM) ($27.99) 1 x eVGA - e-GeForce GTX 285 1GB PCI-E w/ Dual DVI, HDTV-Out ($409.99) 1 x Corsair - HX 850W Power Supply w/ 140mm Fan ($189.99) 1 x Microsoft - Windows 7 Home Premium x64 (64-bit) DVD - OEM ($129.99) I also plan to use my Creative Labs X-Fi Xtreme sound card that I have in my current PC.Total comes out to just over $2,200 CAD.
November 28, 200916 yr Everything looks good! Might want to swap out that cooler for another though. No need to spend so much on air cooling. You may want to look at a Xigmatek 1283/1284 HSF, Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer, Scythe Mugen 2, or OCZ Vendetta 2. I've installed each of these coolers into high-end overclocked systems within the last year, and each is superb.
