November 30, 200916 yr My C drive crashed and FSX is on my E drive.I have O&O Diskimage so hopefully it will save me.If not is there an easy way to reinstall FSX so things go into the registry on the new c drive leaving my FSX intact on e drive?I have backups of all the main folders of FSX also in addition to diskimage. Thanks for any help.Ron Bring back Chief Illiniwek!University of Illinois.
November 30, 200916 yr Hi,Just use the free Flight1 registry editor and it will add the entries back into your new registry.
November 30, 200916 yr It depends on what addons (if any) you have installed.Lots of addons will put various entries into your Windows registry, so you may find these addons no longer work properly. Likewise just about any addon that uses some kind of online activation (Flight 1, PMDG, etc) will no longer work as the license data is stored somewhere on your C drive. Nick
November 30, 200916 yr Author So,it's mainly payware that I am concerned about?I have GEX Europe and N America,FEX,Fsuipc,Radar Contact,UT Europe and US/Canada,FS Genesis mesh,Scenery Tech.Mostly all the addon Scenery packages.Like I posted I have it all backed up with O&O DiskImage which as I understand it should restore new drive as of my last image if I did it properly. Thanks,Ron Hi,Just use the free Flight1 registry editor and it will add the entries back into your new registry.Where do I find it?I do have Flight 1 add ons. Thanks,Ron Bring back Chief Illiniwek!University of Illinois.
December 1, 200916 yr That tool only points the registry entry back to FSX.exe when it becomes detached from time to time. It doesn't fix any addons that have their own entries (pretty much all of them). So you'll need to reinstall everything I would think. It's not so bad. It's quite often a good thing and less daunting than you would think. December 1, 200916 yr If you have indeed imaged the C: drive then everything should be replaced without any need for reinstallation, but you can't know without trying it. FSX will certainly recover as it creates only a single registry entry for itself (and even if it doesn't the Flight 1 tool will fix that simply) but there is the possibility that the act of restoring the disk image might corrupt some license or other, especially if the C: drive components such as the hard drive or motherboard have been replaced as the hardware fingerprint may have changed.Who knows? :(
December 1, 200916 yr I've never tried using an image of the hard drive before so I don't know if it will work. It may very well work if it also restores the Windows registry and all of the licence data for your addons. In the worst situation you will have to reinstall, it might take a few hours but it's not the end of the world. Most of the addons you've listed are distributed via the Flight 1 Wrapper which is very easy to reactivate and reinstall purchased addons with. Nick
December 2, 200916 yr Author So,my FSX drive (E) is ok.GEX,FEX,Ultimate Terrain etc should still be active in FSx because they were installed to it,correct?I just may have to reinstall the programs so I can use them again?Oh,oh,UT was onmy c drive so the scenery library probably directs FS to there. It's not like my scenery add ons are in the add on scenery folder. So when I fire up FS it will probably give me error that says it can't find those scenery files?I'm waiting to hear from my computer Guru to see how he made out with the Disk Image.I was advised to buy it from someone else in the forums who said he uses it and has been able to recreate his drives exactly as they were.Has not had to reinstall anything when losing a drive.Hopefully that is the case here. As I said, imaging should recover everything (and if you've imaged the drive with UT on and have specified a full disk image why would you think UT would not also be restored?) but you can't know until you try. But it seems this discussion is moot if YOU are not repairing the drive yourself. Just insist your computer Guru does whatever it is you're paying him for - and if that includes restoring a fully-usable FSX with addons, that's his problem, not yours.
