Grabbing REX for FS9.1

Featured Replies

Hi Gang.Well, after seeing some of those shots in here and the screen shots forums, I am seriously thinking of grabbing REX.I currently use ASv 6.5, FE and Ge Pro. But I would like to have my FS9 re-vitalised as some have felt that theirs have been.I am however, looking for some help / tips on what to watch for regarding anything that gets over written and can't be got back again, especially if we have altered or used a third party file such as the HALO and the env bitmap etc.Anyone have any tips for me please.I intend to use REX for the Clouds and Water only, as I only use Payware airports such as UK2000 etc, so the runway enhancements and the like won't work for me anyway, and I will also be sticking to ASv 6.5 for weather generation for the time being.I do not want to write off a product in it's early days because of a lack of understanding on my part, and I feel that it would be unfair for anyone to do this to the development team of REX because of some teething troubles.Just a thought though. I wondered if the developers had ever thought of making a "Lite" version of this product that just does the Sky,Clouds and Water.Kind of like a FE, but more up-dated. Now this Would be really interesting to me.Any thoughts on this anyone? Many thanks Gang.PS Please don't let this turn into a REX bashing thread. I would like to look upon this as a constructive theme and not bash the developers unfairly, which to be honest, I think I may have been guilty of in the beginning. (Large slice of humble pie consumed for all to see.)

Steve.

Hi (again) Steve, :( I got REX yesterday and I must say I love it to pieces! Just like you, I use a bunch of custom files like Halo.bmp, then envmap.bmp, sunglow.bmp, spotlight.bmp and so on... I even have some batch files to swap some of these files depending on which aircraft I fly (I use multiple FS9.cfg and FSUIPC files - one for each "major" add-on aircraft). Did I have any problems with REX? No, Sir! I can select what I want REX to install and so far, it kept it's part of the bargain. :( Just to add, I use FE, GEII Pro, FS Elemental Natural Pack, some custom water/dusk/dawn/contrails stuff that I incorporated into FE, then sometimes I use ASG dawn and dusk textures and I can be quite picky as to what I want overwritten and what not. If you are just after clouds & sky & water - go get REX! I must say water hasn't convinced me, but it's still early days, have only tried one set so it is not really fair to say that. Sky & clouds are fabulous... :( Anyway, take a minute or two to configure REX to your liking and it will not overwrite anything you don't want it to. To be on the safe side, make a copy of your FS9/texture and FS9/scenery/world/texture folders if you wish. But even that REX will do for you with initial backup. Regards,JureEDIT: forgot to add, I also use ASv6.5 and sometimes ASA

Hi Steve I am running similar addons to you and when I reinstall FS9 , I will buy REX for the reasons you stated The Sky , cloud and water options are endless , so for

Hi.Thanks Jure and Mark.I think I will wait just a short while as I get the feeling a SP is on the way for REX, so I will hold off, and then just grab the patched / SP version.I was kind of hoping to see something from Tim in here, but I realise of course that this is Avsim, and not the REX forum, but I would have loved to have seen what he had to say about my "Lite" version suggestion.A Lite version would in my opinion, would not only help the full version, but would also offer customers a greater choice of products. I myself would quite hapily pay
