December 22, 200916 yr Hi all,I had everything running OK, both FS9 and FSX with a Vista system. I had a crash with Vista and pretty much lost everything. So I'm up and running again, only this time with Windows 7 and fresh installs of both sims.I have AS6.5 for FS9 and REX for FSX. I'm pretty much happy with AS6.5 but REX gets on my nerves. It updates during flight and makes my screen flash and I think it's a burden on my system (specs below). My question is: Is there a weather program that does both FS9 and FSX in one shot where I don't have to mess with things or is the weather in these sims that much different that a separate program is required? Lately I have been flying FSX with real world weather and not running REX but it does not do the haze well and I have weird triangles of no scenery at a distance at FL430. With REX, the haze got rid of that issue. I was looking at the Active Sky Advanced and it reads like it might do both. I don't mind paying for another weather program but it would be nice if I only had to pay once to get it.Thanks in advance.
December 22, 200916 yr Hi Like yourself I was looking for a weather program that did both, and I finally settled on ASA, and to be quite honest I have never looked back, for me it works brilliantly even when I use it on a networked PC to handle all the weather when using FSX or FS9.I hope it helps.Jim Hodkinson
December 22, 200916 yr I've been using HiFi Sim products for a loonngg time. Purchase ASA and don't look back. Dan George (woodhick)Check out Greenbrier Aero Club, the VA for and about the GA pilot.
December 22, 200916 yr Hi,You can purchase ASA at a discount price, make one purchase, install one time, and have weather in both FS04 and FSX, all with ASA.
December 23, 200916 yr Author Okey dokey. So I've purchased the ASA program as an upgrade to AS6. Now I have a bunch of programs that I guess I don't need, or do I? Can I take advantage of using all these things or should I uninstall much of it to make room for more goodies later? Here's what I got:FS9:ASAAS6.5ASGGE2006 - NOT PROUTUSA - should have nothing to do with weather just thought I'd mention it in caseFSX:ASAREXGEXUTX - should have nothing to do with weather just thought I'd mention it in caseSo is there some way to optimize the eyecandy using this software or should I just run ASA and let the chips fall where they may? Thanks for any advice.
December 23, 200916 yr Hi,With ASv6.5 and ASA installed you can auto generate texture snapshots to use in FS04.With REX and ASA you can manually generate texture snapshot for FSX.Everything else is outside of ASA/weather.
December 26, 200916 yr Author Just a report. My ASA is working nicely. I have about 10 flights under my belt with both sims and it works great! I don't get the snapshot thing and haven't used it yet. And no, I have not read the manual. I don't think I need this feature as the weather looks great. Thanks!
December 26, 200916 yr Hi,Very nice!Briefly, the Snapshot features is for using your environmental texture program with ASA. Yes, the manual will tell you a bit more!!
April 2, 201016 yr Author Jim, I need help.I got a new system (specs in sig) and am having problems loading AS6 so I can upgrade to ASA so I can upgrade to ASE. AS6 wants to install Dot Net 1.1 and Windows 7 64 bit will not allow it. It fails after .net installation saying "1603: Error installing Microsoft .NET Framework".So I'm at a standstill. Please advise.I'm still flying using REX for now, but I must get ASE running to get rid of that annoying heading swing when the weather changes abruptly with REX. I will keep searching for answers until I hear from you. With luck, this will all work out.EDIT - I got it to work. Once it failed to load .NET 1.1, out of frustration I tried again and it allowed the install of AS6.Thanks,dolph98
April 2, 201016 yr Hi,If you don't need ASv6.5 or ASA, then just get the Full version of ASE and use your ASA key.
April 2, 201016 yr Author Hi,If you don't need ASv6.5 or ASA, then just get the Full version of ASE and use your ASA key. Thanks, never thought of that. I don't need either program with my new 'puter as going back to FS9 is not gonna happen. Onward through the fog!
