December 24, 200916 yr Would you real-life MD-11 pilots consider this a pretty good program to learn aircraft systems etc? I have watched many youtube videos, and have noticed that the cockpit sounds alone are almost exact to the real thing, systems are delicately simulated etc. I am an up and coming pilot with aspirations for flying the MD-11 someday and want to learn as much as possible before I go up for an interview or a type-rating. Also, if I put myself through a type rating course, what is the approximate cost (good luck finding that info out online)? As far as my own opinion goes, this is the very best aircraft add-on created for FSX all-round. Bug-free, great sounds and cockpit lighting, with the combination of FS2 Crew and flight planning software such as TOPCAT, I try to make my flights as real as possible. PMDG products are the only ones where I can add all the SID/STARs for Hong Kong's Kai Tak also. David J. You don't say how old you are?, a type rating on the MD11 would be a very bad idea, it would be virtually impossible to get a job on that aircraft now. A old school friend of mine who fly's the ATR in Africa has been hunting for jobs and he applied at Ethiopian airline to fly there MD11F (currently the only MD11 job on the market looking for MD11 pilots) he didn't stand a chance. Your best bet is to visit pprune if your going to ask on the web, a lot of idiots on there but also a lot of experienced guys that can guide you. If your leaving school I would suggest working towards your PPL getting good grades and then look for a apprenticeship with an airline. If you want to go down the route of paying for your own type rating then the US is the best option. I have been looking into a 744 type rating and the cost is around $40000+ but I wouldn't expect to get a job after that. A flightsim forum is not the best place to ask these kind of questions. Maybe if you gave us more information about yourself we could help more.RegardsRob Rob Prest
